And yeah, this doesn't surprise me. He doesn't like characters who aren't constantly on the ball. His entire shtick for decades has been about a super smart person outwitting his foes with crazy tricks.
Simply put, it's the complete opposite of the sort of thing he makes. Imagine BT or young Dio as the protagonist of either of those series. He'd have manipulated everyone, developed his own harem and won the conflict himself.

Honestly, I've never really met anyone who's that big of a fan of part 3. DIO's world was obviously pretty cool outside of the finale, but a lot of the rest of the part just sort of dragged on, and the anime exacerbated the problem.
It seems to be more of a cultural thing than anything, because Japan loves the shit out of it, but no one over here really seems to like it as much.

Regardless of the art-style or message of his series, his heroes always try to go forward and fight, and have as much doubts about their struggle as Kenshiro.
Johnny and Gyro may have looked like andro fags to everyone, but they had some of the most hotblooded scenes in recent shonen.
