Would a hydraulic hammer work better than a pile bunker against mechs?

Assuming that it mimics the operation of an actual hydraulic hammer and not one custom-tooled to "hit really hard once" (in which case it would just be a pile bunker), I imagine that in the hectic pace of close-range/melee-range battle, a single-hit kill might be a tad preferable to having to hold your opponent at arm's bay while repeatedly sticking it to his/her machine.
Unless you really want to make a mess of the opponent.
