Plot's kinda shit, but that's not why we're here, is it.they didn't tank hard enough to save the school so they have to tank some more
There are three new teams. There's the Japanese school with a ton of type 97 Chi-has that are incapable of doing anything but charging forward mindlessly and dying.
There's the Finland school. They use the BT-42 and probably have the most badass fight in the movie. Apparently BT-42 model kits are #1 in their category on amazon japan right now.
The enemy is some sort of college team led by a loli who jumped grades. They use late war allied tanks: Centurions, Pershings, Chaffees. They also have a couple of Maus-style secret weapons; aKarl-Gerätand aT28 Super Heavy Tank.
All characters from the original series show. Last fight has all schools send a handful of tanks to help Ooarai against the college team.
There's some ridiculous tanking. Lots of jumping, flying, drifting, etc. Also carbon coating is more lol than ever before. (getting shot point blank in the driver's viewing port, the aforementionedKarl.
Also, spectacular sound design. It's the sort of movie I'd really recommend seeing in a theater. Too bad it's only in Japan!

You know, the setting did emphasize the lack of fatal hazards involved in the show's sport, but I would imagine that would end up killing somebody.

SW's appeal exponentially increases based on your interest in WWII tech trivia and stuff in that sphere of knowledge, like when they introduce the American she's based onIRL person Chuck Yeageror when the Russian uses her super cognition or whatever it is it'sbased on some old Soviet radar thing. It's okay, but it didn't do a whole lot for me.
Sky Girls has some cool stuff, interesting mecha design, as mentioned the Vic Viper of Konami fame is a regular guest star, nicely fleshed-out ground crew, but the cg animation for the fights is a bit disappointing and the character designs for the girls are too Precious Moments for me to really like them.
