Well I liked it a lot when it came out. I like how it didn't boast the traditional Gundam colour scheme. It aligned well with the theme of the show.

08th MS team is easily the best Gundam OVA. 0080 is pretty close. Unicorn was ok, but too much UC pandering. 0083 is literal shit. Characters were shit, story was nonsensical and shit, everything fell apart at the end.

08th ms team is the gundam series you show to someone who is sick of how glossy and plastic most series in the franchise are. Removing the V-fins and having the lead protagonist pilot a mass produced mass production model was a great way of reinforcing to the audience that 08th MS team was not your typical gundammu.

They only made 20 of the ground gundam, and the gundams themselves were made from leftover project V prototype parts. Once they ran out of the parts they couldn't make anymore, which led to them having to do repair work with the ground GM's parts due to them sharing a frame.
The only mass produced thing Shiro pilots is that ball at the beginning.

I liked 08th MS Team. It was pretty fun and I enjoyed the regular soldier POV it took. I especially liked the Zeon parts, like the beat-to-hell Zakus retreating and getting caught up in that village.
