Gundam Wing, for sure.

Looking back on it now, I realize that the show makes no fucking sense.

Gundam Seed

I never could finish though, so I moved onto other Gundams and those were a lot better than SEED.

Technically Wing, but the way they kept changing Toonami schedules here was insane ,so I missed half of it while it aired. The first Gundam series I watched back to back without interruptions was SEED.

00 got me into the franchise proper, though the first Gundam I ever watched was G back on Toonami.

But if I'm being totally honest, the first episode of Unicorn was really what started it. Shit blew me away because I didn't know any better.

That would probably make him like twenty-two to twenty-four. SEED aired in 2004 in the US, less than four years after Wing started.

Mobile Suit Gundam, Turn A Gundam, and Gundam AGE while it was airing

SEED had an incredibly short run in the states, it didn't finish it got to around episode 8 or 9 before it was pulled.

Still it didn't finish a run, and DESTINY didn't even air in the US. 0083, and 08th reruns forever not surprising so many US fans are stuck in the OYW, I'm hoping they pickup another Gundam series on AS if it is just to end the edgy shit that is Akame Ga Kill
>>

I don't. It was more "gundamy" than season 1 but I still liked it, liked the movie too. /m/ exaggerates things, especially if they're popular.

Didn't matter, this was back when torrents took days to get a single episode of something from some dodgy malware-infested backwater, Newgrounds flash animations were the most amazing things you'd ever seen, and FYE was selling five-episode DVDs for twenty bucks and it seemed like a steal over the previous three-episode VHS tapes. If you had an anime club at your high school, the only two mecha-related things they would ever air would be SEED and Eva.
>>
SEED was the first one I watched all the way through but Wing EW was probably my first exposure to the franchise.

I wanted to try UC was it was near impossible to obtain at the time (short of buying bootlegs with crappy HK subs).
>>
OP's pic is my gateway (along with G and X in that order), with 0079 airing somewhere around 2 months later after those (thanks to cable) on a Japanese channel which showed softcore porn on the weekends.

The Origin. Watched it this summer and thought, fuck it, I might as well watch 0079 to see if the franchise is something I'll like.

Working through 2 episodes a day, midway through Zeta now. Gundam is awesome and I wish I'd started sooner.

Original Series on toonami with the UC OVAs they were running around the same time.

I actually hated Gundam Wing when it first aired and was really turned off by the boy band look of the main cast and didn't like the gaudy look of the Gundams and how hopelessly outclassed everything that wasn't a gundam was compared to them. (Gundams are still my least favorite thing about Gundam, but Wing Gundams exacerbate the things I typically don't like about them)

The UC stuff appealed more to me as a more down to earth war drama.
>>
>>13509750
I've got a story in the same vein. I got high-speed internet and discovered what a torrent was relatively late in the game. One of the first things I decided to download was "the new Gundam," having not seen one since G on Toonami. At the time Destiny was the new Gundam. I was not aware it was a sequel, so I saw Destiny first, then Seed.

It got a little confusing at times. I figured the flashbacks were just the first time the concepts were being introduced.

>>13508952
0079
>>
It depends on how you look at it.

The first encounter I ever had with Gundam (minus apparently seeing Wing on TV when I was a young child, though I have no recollection of it) was with Federation vs Zeon. I had a "Tips & Tricks" issue way back when the 6th gen was just starting, and there was a guide for Federation vs Zeon. I liked the designs, and I thought it looked cool, so about a decade later, I downloaded it for Dreamcast, and thought it was tits. That was when I decided to try to learn more about Gundam.

I tried watching 0079 twice, after that. The first time, I got three episodes in before I dropped it. The second time, I got to The Trap of M'Quve before I dropped it. That's the first Gundam show I ever really watched.

I got Gundam Battle Universe off of some shitty ISO site a few years after that, and it would end up sparking genuine interest in me. So that was what got me truly interested and invested in Gundam.

08th MS Team was the first one I watched to completion. It was short, sweet, and recommended to me as "one of the best Gundam OVAs".

Wing was my first. But I didn't start watching anime in earnest until at least a decade after it aired on CN.

I'd always thought Gundam was a scream-what-you're-doing super robot show until I came to /m/. I told the /m/en what I liked and didn't like and asked what, if any, Gundam might alleviate the disappointment I had for the newer Macross sequels. I was directed to 0080: War In The Pocket and was instantly hooked. I've seen them all since then, with the sole exception of the last five episodes of Reco because I just stopped giving a shit. Tekketsu is shaping up nicely so far, so I'm hopeful.
>>
>>13510025 again
Come to think of it, technically it would have been Gundam Assault Survive on psp.
I'd been playing the hell out of Macross Ultimate Frontier and Macross Triangle Frontier when I heard that the Gundam Battle games used the same game engine so I downloaded the iso for GAS. That was what made me look into the series, but 0080 was still the first one I actually watched.

wing, I watched all the toonami/AS aired gundams until seed. I never saw any part of seed on CTN, and from whenever that would have been until whenever 00 started I forgot all about gundam. being honest 00 put me off of it again for a while until I re-watched the old UC shows. Cue discovering I had forgotten much and or never seen them in order in their entirety, and also seeing zeta for the first time. after picking up unicorn when it was still only one or two episodes, I was pretty much officially on a quest to see all of it. the funny thing is I was going to watch all of gundam much earlier when I first found a torrent of most of them, around 2006. I accidentally started ZZ thinking it was zeta, and gave up on gundam for a while...

>Still it didn't finish a run
But your wrong. because it did finish its run. It was just moved from Toonami to the midnight death slot. Hell it showed because they either didn't finish, or cut the budget for censoring several scenes in the last 2 episodes. (left in guns, blood and deaths.) It remained in that death slot and actually managed to get through half a second run before finally being pulled.

Regardless, Wing when it aired on Toonami.

My memory is extremely hazy when it comes to my youth so I'm not sure if my first introduction to Gundam was seeing my Uncle's mini gunpla collection or watching Gundam Wing. It doesn't really matter though which of those are my real firsts though, for only one memory stands out.

A very long time ago when I was around 10 and irrationally mad about gunpla, I was in Hong Kong and convinced someone in my family to get me a gunpla magazine. I didn't even know how to read canton, but that didn't matter. I just wanted to see the pictures.
It had fucking everything I could ask for besides actual gunpla, there was even a scratch built Big Zam! (Which I didn't know what it was at the time, for me it was just really cool)
But what I remember the most, what truly made me fall in love with gundam, was on the last page.

It was the most elegant thing I had ever witnessed in my life up until that point.
The GP04G Gebera, a scratch build of course.

I hadn't know true love until I turned those pages. The paint, the articulation, the shiny metal bits placed all about. Everything was perfect about it to my younger self. The photographer did a great job emphasizing the detail work.
And the Stürm Boosters? I didn't even know what they fucking were or what they were for but it was cool as fuck!
Best part was, the magazine even came packaged with an MG GP01 shield!
Sure it ain't much, but as a kid it was like Christmas morning in a vacuum sealed plastic bag.

While I lost the magazine ages ago, and the shield going MIA thanks to some housekeeping, I still remember that GP04G fondly.
Though to be honest I can't remember what the build actually looked like anymore, nor who made it.

Sorry for the blogpost, this thread just really brought back memories.

I didn't know it was a sequel at the time and it was something that used to come on On Demand when I was younger so that's how I found out about it.

Now me watching Zeta before the original was probably just as dumb but I ending up happy that I watched Zeta first, because I loved 0079 so much that I felt like I wouldn't have appreciated Zeta as much if I had watched it after.

Saw Wing on toonami as a kid but it was boring and I only saw like 2 episodes before I started skipping it everytime. I think I watched an episode of 08th MS team but i never saw it all until much later.

My friend also bought the first dynasty warriors gundam game and told me about SEED (his fav), I was put off by hirai faces.

Got into 00 while season 2 was airing. Marathonned all of season 1 and enjoyed the fuck out of the whole show. Exia is still the sexiest main gundam design. It wouldn't be until 2013 that I'd marathon the whole series starting from the 0079 movies.

Remember watching Gundam wing and G gundam as a kid. Always thought the way the MC called for his MS in G was cool back then.

I recalled catching a bit of seed when it aired on Sci-fi late anime slot but didn't keep up with for long. Got back into it when I finally got a labtop to watch Gundam 00 back in 2010.
