I think the slow pacing really helped make that fight have a bigger impact because it allowed it to gain a lot of build up. One issue I do have with it though was how many times they kept showing the same origin story flashback.

That arc with Ken and Rei having to rescue the females from that wolf themed clan felt like it lasted like a thousand episodes, all with a situation that could be quickly resolved since those guys were nothing special, pretty much the same as the mooks that get OHKO in droves on a normal episode, just to frustratingly stall before the real plot with Ken's brothers started.

I'm only talking about when it's following the source material. I just largely prefer the pacing of the anime over the manga but filler never really bothers me unless it reaches the insane levels of something like Inuyasha. Hell I don't even mind the censored violence in the anime because they handled it in a really stylish way.

1. Anyone who says that in regards to the anime is probably a hypocrite because a VERY small number of people here have watched those shows.
2. They're not even subbed to begin with.
3. The majority of /m/ wouldn't be able to last through a 70+ episode MotW show from the 70s, let alone 2 of them, 3 in Mazinger's case. The OVAs are specifically designed for you to just jump with knowing little more than the characters' names, because they always catch you up first.
I'd argue Votoms doesn't fit in that image to begin with either, since there are OVAs Takahashi made that are specifically supposed to be watched between certain episodes (and in one case, in the middle of an episode).
