Yea, I kind of liked that he was just a decent person swept up in bigger events that were beyond his comprehension (or at least knowledge) and that if he didn't have the family connection he either wouldn't have been involved at all or would have possibly fought against the side he was on. He wasn't a Char, that was definitely Katejina, but he might have been a Kycilia given the mask and the family connection.

To be fair, his rival has killed several of his friends and loved ones. And not just random comrade in arms, but some lady who saved him from a nuclear bombing when he would have been left behind.
The only way Jerid could NOT want to take out Kamille directly is if he left the army or something.

One fellow compared to Garma once.
He's respectful, decent, and generally blameless in the scope of things but he allows himself to be pushed around, is unaware of the finagling other characters are pulling off, and has absolutely no idea that his mentor and friend is taking advantage of him.
He jobs on occasion but was otherwise a good pilot. He was straightforward and loyal to his cause. He's a mask, but as a character he's Garma.

Honestly, it's been a very long time since I watched anything UC, but I seem to remember Chronicle being a red herring for the show's CHAR. He only really has the surface similarities- good pilot, mask, relation to major female lead.
Now Katejina? She was the show's Char.

I don't get the whole "Chronicle is incompetent" part of his character, in or outside of his show.
While it's true he's just Katejina's beta whiteknight (especially towards the end) it's not like Katejina herself doesn't have some feelings for him so it's not a completely one-sided relationship like Mashymre who basically worship the ground Haman walks.
Sure he lost to a 13 year old kid in terms of piloting skill, but then again a hell of a lot of people and other named aces in the Victory timezone also lost to Uso too.

Nothing wrong in losing to Uso. It's one of the most consistently good Gundam pilots ever. Also untill the V2 he doesn't really have a superior MS to rely on, even when fighting grunts.
