As much as I liked /v/ when this was a good descriptor, it's the exact reason why the board went to shit.

As a franchise, it changes a lot.
The original is good but bleak as hell.
Godzilla vs. Hedorah is really psychedelic.
Destroy All Monsters and Final Wars are kitchen sink free-for-alls of everything in the series up to that point.
Giant Monsters All Out Attack is cool, but Godzilla is a zombie.
So... start with Godzilla vs. Biollante. It's about Godzilla fighting a giant rose, and it's still one of the least weird ones.
