I'm betting he finds out about the Alaya-Vijnana system from the McGillis and the other guy, gets one implant thinking it'll make him a better pilot than Mikazuki and loses again, before getting several implants to try and match him and still fail, becoming both more desperate as time goes on and yet by his experience of the Alaya-Vijnana system's painful injections and so on, more sympathetic to the Tekkadan crew despite himself.
I think he's going to be the most sympathetic member of Gjallarhorn by the end because he'll have shared some of their pain and problems, where McGillis and purple guy will become more distant from it because they simply don't care about their issues and are more concerned with their own careers and the future of Gjallarhorn despite seemingly being nicer and better people on the surface.

Well the reason I reckon he'll become more sympathetic rather than crazy is because Okada seems to have been allowed more freedom to be "not Gundam" in some ways with IBO than directors and producers have in the past and either not aware of some of the cliches like red suits, Chars and so on, or just not concerned with them so I'm hoping she avoids doing the typical cliched route of crazy newtype analogue.
Also, while Ein is definitely older than the Tekkedan kids, he strikes me as someone who is only maybe 18 or 19, not a full adult, so while yes, him getting the implants is probably riskier Orga warned the presumably 16 or 17 year old Kudelia off getting implants not because of age but because of the pain and lack of necessity of it. Has it actually been stated to be a bad thing for adults to get it? I don't recall it being said, but I may have forgotten it.
