After seeing both of these godawful Attack on Titan live action movies, I have absolutely no hope for Anno's upcoming Godzilla with Higuchi (who directed this).
What could Anno possibly bring to the table that would make this decent? It's not like his last directorial attempt (3.0) was anything to write home about.

The point is that Japan sucks at filmmaking.
There are rare exceptions like Kurosawa and Miike, but they're accomplished filmmakers.
Anno has only directed a handful of movies, most of them short films. As much as he loves toku, I don't think he has what it takes to make a Shin Godzilla.

Speaking in terms of direction, Eva 3.33 was perfectly fine, bordering on very good. The only people that have issues with it are the fanboys who are upset about the direction the story went, not the directing in general.
