It was pretty great even if the end was rushed at the last 5 minutes but damn did I enjoy the ride.

What's you're opinion on it?

So our count of people who saw M3 is up to, what, eight? Or is it nine?

It's definitely ended up being one of my favorites, which is shocking because so much of the stuff in it is usually stuff I don't even like. Once episode 8 comes around it just gets better and better. It has a great usage of the suffering that makes the ending all the sweeter.

The music is incredible.

The only thing I could agree with was the gratuitous amounts of flashbacks, even if the series heavily rely's on them.

When I got the OST 3 and 4 for whatever reason I didn't have a Mega account so I put them up on a different site. Maybe I was just waiting for the full OST to be made available. I'll start the process of getting a .rar of all 4 OSTs and both the OP and ED on Mega right now.

Not much else to add to this post so have one of the less talked about great Natsuiri moments.
>>
>>13462359

Argevollen was good in terms of gritty military fiction, and it was also nice as a real-robot show where the fancy prototype didn't win the war. The characters were pretty complex by the end of it and the final episode of the show was interesting in ways that a straight finale couldn't be.

It's hard to recommend to just anybody. Maybe if you liked Dougram?

>>
>>13462359
Yes, it was. A slow but steady pace until things eventually ramp up, a down to earth military story where military doesn't mean ragtag gang of misfits for once, good focus on the whole cast, combined arms, good mecha design other than the lead mecha, and an all around damn good show.

It's Front Mission: the anime. The first three episodes are the weakest part where the MC does the I NEED TO DISOBEY ORDERS TO SAVE PEOPLE routine, but after that he gets a lot better and never does it again. The show doesn't really settle into its groove until the episode where they go on leave, but the episodes before that still have their place and fair share of good moments.

Also pretty good CG that gets a noticeable bump in quality in the second half.

The original title for the show was "RAINBOW METAL, MAGICAL MACHINE MANIA". When they are piloting the Mavess, it was supposed to be all trippy-like, RAINBOWS and NEON everywhere. It was supposed to bright and colorful.

However, they fell behind schedule and started late into the season. By then, all the slice-of-life animus have already bought all the warm and cheery colors. The color factory was left only the bleakest and darkest colors. The production crew had no choice but to overhaul the entire concept to something dark and gloomy. They renamed the show "The Dark Metal, M3" but they've never really figured out what "M3" is supposed to mean now that it's not MAGICAL MACHINE MANIA anymore.

True story.
>>

M3 has a lot of stuff that would be super easy and very difficult to fit it into SRW.

Like the main unit getting trashed before the final battle, and that being a pretty important plot point. And the soundtrack being a bit difficult to work with (assuming it's generous, let's say 3 tracks, SRW would most likely give them Re:Remember, Anata ga Tame ni or Replica, and one of the instrumental battle themes from early in the series because of Banpresto's recent fixation on those.

Also a lack of any notable attacks other than punching and GUN. Maybe those electric throwing knives?

I could see this series working off well with being connected to Eva or Rahxephon. Maybe even both since MX already did.

>Nerv and IX work in cooperation for the preparation of the coming Angels while assisting against the Admonitions.

>>13469062
>M3 cast interacting with Eva cast
>They don't like each other for various reasons
>>
>>13469068
Makes sense. Everyone already has problems with each other at the start. That's what the character development is for.

>Akashi and Shinji go about being distant and cold selves, slowly opening up as they meet their quiet/shy love interest. They're basically the angsty asshole versions of Heero/Setsuna/Sousuke. Shinji cries about getting into the Eva, Akashi just deals with it but hates it just as much. They simultaneously learn the truth about their respective mechs, one being empowered by it while the other goes berserk.

>Kasane, Susan, and Misato are drinking buddies with Kasane helping her learn how to take care of a kid.

>Emiru trying her best to be the best while Asuka continues to claim she is.

>Sasane, who's experiencing happiness with the cast, tries to help Rei open up.

>Natsuiri is obsessed with his plan and also his love I guess for Mimie. Collaborates with Gendou for similar purposes.

The parallels are astounding and rife for crossover material.
>>
>>13469062
The regular Vesses could have up to four attacks since they also have the stake and you could count the Magnetic Bomb that was in episode 16. Ma-Vesses have just about all the options of regular Vesses plus their own unique weapons, so they could all have punch, gun, weapon, and their own things like Scopedogs got a "use all the weapons" attack for their strongest.

Fafner would have absolutely amazing synergy with M3. I could see Iwato and Raika hanging out with Sakura, Kenji, and Mamoru; Canon developing alongside Akashi; Mahmu looking up to Maya after she becomes a pilot and Mizoguchi trying his best to help her out as well; general good drama involving the adults in both plots. There are so many great possibilities, and the idea of the M3 cast becoming mentor figures in Heaven and Earth or Exodus plots sounds really interesting.

Having a SRW with a more bleak setting where the focus is on shows like M3, Fafner, or Eva would be pretty unique.

I can actually kinda imagine it now.

>The lightless realm was originally created as an area that would attract and hold the Angels with Corpse on the inside fighting them. The people of Yajima Island corrupted that purpose because fuckin Natsuiri and big government. Shit gets even more out of control thanks to the kids and all that malice.

>The festums are allied with Angels at first to assimilate/destroy the human race but are also attracted to the lightless realm. They arrive first and assimilate Makabe while the kids spend their time in the city but eventually get out.

>>
>>13469801
At least 11. I watched the show too, but didn't post too much since it wasn't for me. M3 seemed poorly paced and repetitive. So many trips to the lightless realm were just the same shit over and over again.

For IBO? I think Akashi would fit in the most, but Heito would be able to find a place where he gets some plot role since killing is way easier for Tekkadan to accept (at least until he does something that goes too far). Raika would probably be the most interesting one to put in there since she'd help round out the cast and she could probably slip right into a Mobile Worker no problem.

I get the feeling that Emiru going into Tekkadan could cause absolute chaos to ensue.

I mean, you could just put it on /m/ if that's what you're comfortable with.
I just like having either skype or discord to keep in contact with someone so it's easier to send private messages and files directly to each other, cause it's worked so well with UQ.

Argento Soma and Fafner would synergize very well thematically. Both also have living crystal/metal aliens that could be tied together. And Betterman is a natural fit as >>13473127 said.
>>
>>13473127
Betterman could have some really good synergy. Something like Mamon wanting to study the Corpse because it is biologically similar to a Somnium and people who are Necrometaled being good sources of Animus. A stage where you need to fight the Corpse and the Brahman while they're trying to kill each other would be pretty cool. I'd just hope that the next time Betterman appears it'd fix the two major gameplay issues of no playable Lamia and Kakuseijin #1's not having an A/S Rank in Water.

There's a very slight possibility that it might happen in a DS SRW, since those have gotten into the habit of getting really unique cast lists.

I imagine that the M3 pilots would have a unique skill of Resonance that's something like an anti-LR thing and stat buffs with free Spiritual Fortitude once it reaches a certain level. Maybe it'd work like the Fafner's Crossing System and boost stats based on how strong the overall Resonance you have fielded.

>>13473303
Don't forget the side-effect of deploying the LR
The Trees that counters the mindfuck appears in random spots of the map.

And every turn spawns Admonitions based on how many units you killed. Admonitions are neutral units that attack everything that's not an Admonition or the Corpse
>Try to grind kills and money on a certain stage that has endless spawning enemies before you cleared M3's events
>Random event: Corpse appearance
>LR deployed
>Every turn spawns more and more Admonitions

It's REALLY edgy at the onset. Aside from the heavy character hangups that make them start to hate each other, at first it seems like the mavess are actually powered by suffering since they're a horror to pilot. Its not until later it lightens up when they effectively "kill off" the Edgy-kill-em-all misunderstood kid and then realize that the mavess aren't actually suffering incarnate, they're anime dramatic misunderstandings incarnate and actually run off connecting hearts, at which point they almost become pleasant to drive. Then it gets edgy again with Ms."why don't you love only me" going batshit and Mr. "why don't you only love her" going all traitor, and Mr. kill-em-all coming back.

One of my biggest issues was it seemed to me that there would be minor drama involving the younger brother having past feelings for his brother's fiancee and the fiancee starting to feel for the MC, but there's a point in the series where you can almost feel they kill that plot in the womb as if to say they already had too much "plot" going on to other with it.
>>
>>13468642
If you mean the cop procedural "The Wire," I'd recommend actually watching all of these shows on rotation rather than going through them all at once. M3 probably fares better when you have some time to digest each episode and not get burdened by the near incessant grimdark (and there is some fun in waiting and anticipating the next episode. The Wire also benefits from having some space between episodes because its pretty formulaic at times despite there being an overarching plot. Majestic prince you can really go either way with, but you probably get more attached to the characters if you don't rush through, and despite those few really cool action sequences, it really is the characters that carry the show.
>>
>>13466200
Is anyone else able to get any of these to open?
For some reason, the downloads work fine but winrar comes up with "The archive is either in unknown format or damaged"
Does it need all the pieces to eb able to read them or something?

Surprisingly alright. I liked the mech designs there and somehow the plot wasn't too bad.

The VESS were pretty sex.

Our group watch thought it was just edgy as heck at first but most of the cast won us over. We did have some dumb nicknames for some of the characters like Professor Asshole for Natsuiri (didn't even know he was also voiced by Kamille) and Slut for Emiru (who was for some reason my other favorite outside of Sasame and Raika).

Also holy fuck the second opening/ending is great.

If anything, the way they kind of tackled the whole "understanding" thing was all right for me too.

That kind of explains M3 existing. Coming out of it, it feels like the show no one would really want. There's no fan service, not much robot action, it's bleak, deliberately paced, and it's characters take a long time to warm up to. It's an absolutely brilliant series, and I'm incredibly happy it exists, but it really feels like a miracle that it does.

>Overall, the first set of OP/EDs seemed to capture the mood of the series; the second set almost sound like they're from a different show entirely
Although it does sort of match part of the themes because in the midst of all the suffering having an OP like Replica in there raises the question of just how happy it might end up being. It might've been more effective to have kept it as a song played in the end of the last episode in that regard, though. I definitely don't regret having a second OP and ED because they both sound great.

I also like Infinity≠Zero and Paralyze:D.

It carries the sense that it was made simply because Okada and Sato wanted to make it, which in many ways is a really good way to get series that eschew popular trends in favor of telling the story. Unless by some miracle a show like M3 becomes a smash hit, though, it's unlikely these type of series' will pop up often.

Well, anime is, first and foremost, a business. Shows are aimed at a very specific segment of the market: The obsessive fan. And those don't buy anything that isn't filled with waifus and fanservice or, in the case of the females ones, guys being a bit gay.

M3 being made just because Okada and Seto wants to is possible.
The question is, are they such good friends with Kawamori that he is willing to make a few robots for their most-probably-unprofitable project?

Though, it kind of makes sense why Satelight would be animating it, the CEO of Satelight do want some original projects so they aren't dependent on LN adaptations or other stuff to survive, and Kawamori works there.

Also I don't know whose decision it was to cram all three routes together but it was rather ballsy and very stupid. Anyone who could've actually pulled that off would've been really talented.

Not using Die Lorelei was the worst sin committed by the 2nd Cour of UBW.

You need someone that can really take your shit to be your editor though.

Just imagine the thousand page volumes Kawakami's editor has to go through every time he finishes one volume.

The story I actually liked for the most part. It just spent like 8 episodes worth of time on SoL shit that added very little to the progression of the plot. Also, DEEN™ kek

She was forced to merge all the routes during the production. It was going to be a mess even without her.

You mean she was not allowed to as she needed to stay faithful to the source?

Yeah and Okada made it worse with her shitty adaptation just how he turned Lupin into shit with Fujiko

Go back to /a/ with the others retards that worship that shit over there. We don't need you on this thread or in /m/

I really liked how Mahmu got at least the courage to fight back. I wish Okada could do some of that with pic related in her series.

Also, great job ruining an M3 thread. Fuck you.

BD subber anon here. Sweet jesus chyuu I don't even. I don't think I can mux this as well as I had wished to. Looking at their subs in Aegisub they did a weird thing with their karaoke in the later episodes and I don't know how to put that in the first episode that does not have karaoke. So the first episode will not have a karaoke OP or ED. Aside from that everything is looking good so far. If anyone is good at doing subbing take a shot at trying to mux the karaoke for the first episode.

don't take this the wrong way but, that's a good thing.

Seriously. While a little different, I usually cannot stand the "grr you stole my thunder, now I'm going to ruin your life bullshit that seemingly every series has" and this show, outside of the obvious villain and Tsugumi (who actually had some sensible motive) did a good job avoiding that.

You could always send it to me, and I could see what I can do.
Though I'm not the biggest fan of Karaoke, to be honest,so I haven't really messed with it yet.

Anyway, of the first disc, I have 1 - 17, 19, 21-24, and 29 - 30. So only 6 parts left. Between today and tomorrow, I should be able to get all the remaining parts easily.
That said, I don't know about what kind of x264 cocktail I'm going to be using for the series as I don't have the option of looking at the actual episodes yet. So that might take a little bit of time. That said, things are moving at a faster clip than expected.

Try if you want. They did a good job of subbing but they did it weird is all I am saying.

It was shitposted on /a/ because of Mari and then everyone left. We were still around. Then the NTR thread was made and that made a lot of people pick it back up. I was along for the ride the whole way. /m/ threads were smaller in number like usual. But we are the ones who actually contribute to the anime.

Help

I can't access the archives. Has anyone else tried to open any of these?
>>
>>13500054
Usually you unzip it and it should all come out. In this case it looks like a part is corrupted. If you can determine what part is corrupted you can try to re-download it. Also check if you have every part. You might be able to unzip each part individually. If you selected them all then it won't work, try one at a time.
>>
>>13500054
Wait, nevermind. I wasn't thinking and extracted it rather than combined it. Woops. Carry on.
It'll probably be tomorrow that I know what I'm dealing with; it'll take like 7 hours just to combine.
>>
>>13500118
For some reason, none of them work at all, each gives the same error message when I try to access them.

Also, I made sure, and it seems like I have all the parts.

I don't know about this; I assumed that yeah, it would be able to be extracted by selecting all of them at once.
>>
>>13500152
Usually you just open one of the files and extract that one, if the files are all in the same folder it will extract without any input from you, if one of the files is missing it will ask you for it.
>>
>>13500229
This, that is what you usually do.
>>
>>13500229
>>13500245
Combining them did nothing, selecting all 30 parts the same error message, man I don't know what to do. Just trying to access them, one by one or as a whole, gives the same error message.

Fuck. And it wasn't botched downloads, I get that much, so I assume the files are fucked in the first place.
