In all seriousness, what the fuck is even happening in this scene composition?
Mika is holding the hammer and strikes. Got that.
But then Crank cuts the shaft of the hammer with his axe. At this point, one of two things must be true: Mika was holding above the cut or below the cut.
If Mika was holding above the cut, he is still holding the hammer, just with a very short grip that's its not designed for. If below the cut, the head of the hammer drops and Mika is just holding a length of shaft connected to nothing.
But Neither of those happens. The length of shaft goes flying away, which seems to imply that he cut below where Mika was holding the hammer, which isn't tactically very significant. Mika should still be holding the hammer, or at worst have been forced to drop it where he stands.
Instead, Mika jumps a large distance backwards... and picks up the hammer head for a surprise attack.
Which surprised me even more than it must have surprised Crank, because HOW THE FUCK DID IT GET ALL THE WAY BACK THERE? YOU WERE JUST HOLDING IT.
This is nonsense that breaks down the moment you look past the editing and try and visualize how this must have worked without the camera cutaway to the princess and Orga.
>>13457940
...shit. You're right. I mean, I like IBO, but that's really strange editing.
>>13457940
Except it shows Crank hitting the mace above where Mika is holding it. The only problem I see with this scene is that the mace head would have been to mika's right rather than the left.
>Mika is only holding onto the shaft post-cut
>Discards it by throwing into air whilst retreating
>Crank would probably just deflect the mace head away
The last part is a bit odd since it's shown colliding with Crank's left arm and it would make sense for him to push it away, toward's Mika's right
>>13457966
But how does that put the mace head so far behind Mika? This only works if there was a pretty important series of actions and movements that happened off camera, specifically to set up a trick that doesn't actually make sense when take with what we see actually happen.
I think the more likely explanation was that they were following a written script for the battle that, visually, they fucked up conveying. Like, the scriptwriter meant for it to be shown one way but the animators didn't provide the setup for it properly. But the fight still has to end in the predetermined way, so you just sort of halfass it and hope no one notices.
>>13457966
It looks like what happens is he hits above the hands, but the flying shaft implies below the hands, and in none of the above does the mace end up behind Mika.
In true Gundam tradition, I am going to say that this is the result of Minovsky Particles. No further explanation needed.
>>13457982
I'm not sure how the physics works out in this case but seeing as the mace is only traveling off of momentum after the shaft gets cut, Crank should be able to basically bat it aside with the arm it collided with.
>>13458000
I just thought Mika held onto the shaft while jumping backwards and threw it mid-air but then again the scene doesn't convey it in any way.
>>13458000
>not newtypes
>>13457940
i didnt get why there was so much blood
unless it wasnt blood and was some sort of mechanical fluid or coolant or whatever. with that big splash i was expecting there to be nothing left in the cockpit but we see crank and he has just has a small hole in his side
>>13458000
I just assumed the flying shaft was a result of it being knocked out of his hands at the same moment it's cut.
Still doesn't explain how the mace somehow landed to Mika's left all the way far back. If anything, Crank caught it with his Graze's left arm, so would have batted it off to his left/Mika's right after cutting the shaft.
Ah man, I really can't do anime anymore. Most of these are horrible.

>>13463994
>>13463852
Stop watching mecha then, because very soon there won't be any handrawn mecha shows left. Sunrise is already showing signs of bowing to our 3DCG overlords.
>>13454954
Too bad Satelight's computer isn't that strong at the time so the robots ended up shooting at the camera all the time instead.
It's no longer the case in Sayonara no Tsubasa though, so I expect better in Delta.
>>13464027
I swear that cut wasn't CG anon. Sunrise didn't go full CG in their anime.
>>13463852
i feel like we're a dying race people like you and i
>>13464033
That particular cut is. It's from the Akito movie, and that is full of CG mecha.
>>13464035
>hipster a dying race
Sounds about right.
>>13464033
>CG is slowly becoming indistinguishabile from 2D
It's all ogre now senpai
>>13464035
That's because 3DCG, like all animation, is constantly evolving, it's no longer the clunky awkward blobs from 10 years ago. People who says "3DCG will never be good!!" sounds like toddlers who insisted that all vegetables are yucky food regardless of how it is cooked.
>>13464048
Seriously there are some shots in Fafner that look indistinguishable that's some good shit desu
>>13464048
>>13464052
Because Sunrise and Orange mixed up some 2D in their 3DCG, unlike Satelight.
Even then, I remember one cut in the False Songstress movie that has VF-25 in 2D.
>>13464065
Ah yeah here it is. Sorry for the quality though, 3rd worlder internet here.
>>13464069
And then cuts back to CG again.
>>13464075
What's up with that, really? The 2D is off-model too.
>>13464079
I Dunno but i prefered the VF-25 myself over the 29. Felt like they couldent resist giving alto a special snowflake unit and all they could come up with was a half assed 'not evul' VF-27.
Am i the only one who prefers the Messiah?
>>13464170
No. Messiah is best girl.
>>13464065
>Because Sunrise and Orange mixed up some 2D in their 3DCG, unlike Satelight.
That's not what makes their CG good.
Hell, I'll be honest, most of the hand-drawn shots of Fafners in Exodus look downright terrible compared to the CG. The 3D is good because it's damn good 3D, not because it has 2D mixed in (which there's very little of, anyway).
>>13464361
There are some good drawn shots though.
>>13454249
wow, look at that random magic anime maid girl fight a futuristic mech with a laser sword and machine gun to a standstill.
Fuck that is ball achingly bad.

Fuck magic anime girls beating mechs, that kinda shit makes me want to punch the animator in the throat.
>>13466298
The ending of the fight isn't in the webm and there are in show reasonable explanations for why that fight went like that, but you're already mad at the end result so I'll spare you the details.
>>13466313
It's a plain looking maid fighting a flying mech with a laser sword. Nothing can be a reasonable explanation for that.
It would be like Dorthy beating the Big O.
>>13466326
Like I said, I'll spare you the details.
>>13466326
>It would be like Dorthy beating the Big O.
Big O is at least 5 times the size of the mech in that webm and Dorothy is a non-combatant unlike that maid.
>>13466390
This just made want to watch gao gai gar, it's been in my backlog too long.

>>13468317
>there will never again be a well animated Macross dogfight, just rigid and boring CG crap.
Are you just referring to Macross with this or all mecha anime?
>>13468382
Just Macross, because there is a higher level of expectation for glorious air battles than with random summer season mecha show #38956.
>>13468401
But TV Macross only had a small handful of good fight animation. DYRL and Plus have way more total than SDF and 7
