What's up with the new movie?
How bad is Arise?

SSS was shit.
>>
>>13449329
>How bad is Arise?
Not enough horsecock.

It feels like something that is not GitS.
Staff feels like Oshii fanboys.

>>13449329

I though Arise was pretty alright actually. Looking forward tot he movie.

>It feels like something that is not GitS.
>Staff feels like Oshii fanboys.

you could say the same thing about SAC honestly. Really the only thing that tried to be like the manga was the PSX game and everything since has been movie wank
>>
Mmmm i don t know, ffrom the trailer it seemed pretty interesting to me. It feels just like the second gig series that i really liked so i m pretty pumped up for now at least
>>
>>13449346
>Staff feels like Oshii fanboys.
Honestly, the original manga is nothing special outside the designs and concepts.

Plus the less said about man-machine interface the better
>>
>>13449329
Arise is now some sort of prequel to the whole franchise with this movie.
They will keep miliking this dry pulp while giving in Oshii asthetics instead of adopting any of Shirow's work faithfully.
>>
Arise is a weird show, but I like how the other team members are portrayed. Actually everything non-Major related is good because the Major in Arise is incompetent unlike her SAC self.
>>
>>13450251
>Actually everything non-Major related is good

This applies to most of the franchise.
>>
>>13450251
>rise is incompetent unlike her SAC self.
Isn't that the point?
She's noob as fuck.
>>
>>13450282
The issue was she never grew. She fucks up and then is meant to have a lesson from it but then keeps being the same idiot

So basically korra
>>
>>13450266
I wouldn't say that, in SAC and GIG she is too good for the most part and in Arise she is just terrible at her job. I would like some sort of middle ground.

pls, no
>>
>>13450282
Which is fucking weird since the members are better than her and she's supposed to be the leader.

Also why would she get hired if shes noob ashell
>>
>>13450308
Sorry. Unlike Korra she isn't even fuckable at all.
>>
>there are actually people who prefer SAC 2nd GIG over SAC 1

Why? SAC 2nd GIG had interesting themes, but they were explored in very broad, tenuous ways.
>>
>>13450324
I liked how their enemy in GIG was actually visible, in SAC you disliked Kanzaki but you never feel like he is a enemy per-say.
>>
>>13450324
>they were explored in very broad, tenuous ways.
this is a problem with all GiTs really, slightly less with original manga where it isn't so prevalent. It is bite sized philosophy, presented in a neat way so you read up about it on wikipedia later
>>
>>13449329
Arise's biggest problem is that it just comes off as bland cyberpunk with GitS name slapped onto it.
Both Shirow and Oshii's version where more distinct than Arise, which could have been a completely original brand and no one would be able to tell.
>>
>>13450324
I like 2nd GIG better because it had a more interesting plot, and not just conspiracy about the medicinal industry.

I also think that it flowed much better as a show. 1st season has maybe 3 eps before the last 6 episodes that are plot relevant, with 2nd GIG almost every ep has some relevance to the larger plot. It also explores more of Kusanagi's backstory in a good way, as well as Saito, and gives her a match with rubber face man whose name I forget.
>>
>>13450600
>1st season has maybe 3 eps before the last 6 episodes that are plot relevant
Most of the Stand Alone episodes introduced or set up a concept that would be used in the Complex episodes in the first season.
>>
>>13449368
>you could say the same thing about SAC honestly.
SAC is nothing like the movies. It feels like a cop drama to Oshii's philosophical wank fests

>Really the only thing that tried to be like the manga was the PSX game

The manga is nothing special just a bunch of ideas with no sense of flow or narrative, everything that came after did a good job of taking Shirow's ideas and making them work in a competent setting and when Shirow tried his hand on the franchise again it was a complete fucking mess so he's off doing horse porn while I.G. remains the face of the franchise.
>>
>>13450661
>SAC is nothing like the movies.
This is /m/, people are going to shit on SAC and the movie just to be contrarian.
>>
>>13450645
Maybe half of them had some thread, and it was a one-sided thing where they'd maybe reference Aramaki's brother or something, they weren't actually building towards the end.
>>
>>13450661
Shirow didn't really "come back" to GITS, he was already halfway done with what became MMI, and had already published the chapters that would be collected as HEP.
>>
>>13449741
>Honestly, the original manga is nothing special outside the designs and concepts.
If you're going to say that then you should say GitS has nothing special about it on the whole, because everything good about all releases of GitS beyond the technical artistic aspects (animation) are owed to the original manga.
>>
>>13451646
>because everything good about all releases of GitS beyond the technical artistic aspects (animation) are owed to the original manga.
Nope, the anime are completely different from the manga in terms of themes, characterization and writing all they take from the manga is setting and key concepts and even that is changed a bit in the adaptations. People give far too much credit to Shirow when none of his actual writing actually made it to any of the adaptations, when people think GitS nowadays they either think of Oshii or Kamiyama because they actually gave some goddamn class to the franchise, no random sex orgies to be found. Hell the live action films are using the movie and TV anime as a benchmark not the manga.
>>
>>13452156

Flick is the word you want.

>the Major in Arise is incompetent unlike her SAC self.

Id argue the Major in SAC has the exact opposite problem. The whole thing reads like something written by people so in love with the character that they never gave her any flaws and the only thing anyone can say is how she's so super amazing.

We got one episode dedicated to Saito and it's nothing but Major wank

SAC Major's not a character. She's a fanboys wet dream and it makes for a boring experience.
>>
>>13452290
despite that fact I still watched GIG and SAC around forty time.
>>
>>13452304

SAC's not without it's good elements and the Major in that can even be entertaining in small doses, but the issueis we got 52 episodes of it when there's enough plot to carry MAYBE one season. And that's if they spread the screen time around better.

Poor Bohma never got anything

Episode 2 was pretty good.
>>
So which is better: The ARISE movies, or the ARISE TV anime?
>>
>>13454514
ARISE: AA is just the OAVs + 2 new episodes that lead into the movie which is out now.

I suppose the answer would be AA since more content, but then again people might say the OAVs because it's more content of
>ARISE
>>

Id actually love to see the arise world fleshed out more.

Cyborg fetus is both interesting and horrifying a concept in regards to the cyberization technology
>>
>>13454520
I've only watched the Arise movies via Netflix, minus the first one which I torrented and kind of regretted wasting the HD space on. Are those two episodes necessary to understanding the overall metaplot?
>>
>>13454699
I dunno. Haven't watched em yet. Downloading actually.
>>
>>13454699
Probably not, but I'd say you should watch them to be on the safe side. Think of it like a director's cut.
>>
>>13449329
Arise is great, deal with it
>>
Just finished the new movie, it was really nice until the end where they rushed everything.
>>
i really like this spider tank from the movie
>>
>>13449329

I love SAC because it's like a greatest hits of themes, stories, and technologies from Appleseed and Ghost in the Shell (including nods to scenes from the movies). But I wish that there would be a new Ghost in the Shell that looks like the comics, with all the detail and weirdness and colorful characters.
>>

Solid State Society was a really enjoyable Stand Alone Complex film. Agree to disagree.

Arise was weaker than previous entries.

It had it's moments but then most of the time it was like SAC all over again.

Movie was alright. It was predictable for most of it's part. At the end , the reveal that was prequel to the manga with same staple scenes of Major killing someone while falling from a building while activating her clocking skin and later the Sakura garden mission is really stale at this point

But I do hope that those fools who try to establish a chronology between the movies and tv series are BTFO'ed as Arise confirms that each itereation is a universe of it's own.

I hope someday someone will adopt Major from the manga truthfully instead of mute doll from 1995 movie which is imposed on every adaptation.
>>
>>13461579

I still remember that they censored robutts when it aired on Sci-Fi
>>

>I hope someday someone will adopt Major from the manga truthfully instead of mute doll from 1995 movie which is imposed on every adaptation.

Guess we'll have to wait until someone remembers the 40th anniversary of the manga. Of course, by then they'll be putting out OVAs for the anniversaries of the manga and SAC, but there's still some hope.
