Because you get charged up with particles at thd start of the match in Try. By launching as three seperate gunpla and then combining you get 3 gunpla worth of particles for tryon 3 instead of just one. Same logic for why team try didn't just launch with winnings parts pre-equipped in the first half of the series. Its to give them extra particles on top of their initial-charge.

He also helped in the upgrading of the team's suits, although admittedly he was only doing basic stuff since he wasn't particularly skilled and when he was hurt fighting at the training camp literally the first thing he did upon waking up was run out to go repair his gunpla by himself. He needed help, but the idea was there and frankly it's more than Reiji really did. Try sucks for a lot of reasons, but they did at least attempt to show Reiji as someone who wanted to learn about gunpla.

The Super Renato Bros might not have been into Gundam, although they seemed to have some knowledge of canon like the idea of swapping out their GM head with the Blue Destiny. Each of its parts was built to be able to act as a separate unit and be able to fight on its own on par with other gunpla.
