Actually whatever writing system is used Arc is how its pronounced, ah (with those asterisk things) however is how it's written in Sanskirt, all international versions even the Japanese cover art uses the sanskrit character, hence why its used.

The question is whether or not the Getter was named after the Sanskrit character and the approximation came later or if it was named after the approximation.
It seems more likely that it was named after the original character and both the English and Japanese (and the Japanese attempt to make it legible to English readers,) are simply doing their best to approximate the original.
