I think you need to first get that this movie is going to be a Sci-fi Time Travel movie rather than a Robot Horror film (T1) or Robot vs Robot Action flick (T2/T3/Salvation).
Another thing is a lot of people are locking onto the stable timeloop/predestination paradox. The series may be shifting towards a Time-travel through transference to alternate/parallel realities.

No, the problem is that no change is possible with a stable loop.
A stable time loop obey the novikov self-consistency principle, which mean that the attempt at killing Sarah O'connor just "happened" and THEN later the event lead to sending the two travelers.
It might look paradox, but it would at least obey the laws of causality which is the most important.
If the timeline can change, the travelers are basically arriving in an alternate universe (and some SCIENCE must make sure it is the same)
That's where the reason to keep Skynet from happening blur. You vanquished it and it can't negate it or else you would have "stopped from existing" the very plank-time the Terminator was sent (and so wouldn't care anymore).
So you need a new reason, maybe you feel responsible and you want to keep Skynet from happening because of your timeline.
The problem stay that it is just an alternate universe where you can chose your time of arrival, and with that anything is possible.
