Why do the Zanscare insist on using fucking rotors, especially when they come from space of all places?
Shit is retarded
>Why do the Zeon insist on using fucking aquatic MS variants, especially when they come from space of all places?
>>12404143
Engine fuel and propellant are expensive and rotors are an easier way to fly in gravity.
Unless you have a Minovsky drive of course.
>>12404143
I see you aren't far enough into Victory Gundam to realise that beam rotors are genius.
They're shields, buzzsaws, and they allow for unlimited flight without a Minovsky craft like the Victory has.
They don't work like actual helicopter rotors when they generate lift either.
>>12404143
It's cheap, multifunctional, and effective.
>>12404181
>beam rotors are genius.
Beam rotors are fucking nuts
Best part is that they can be weapons, Shields, propulsion mechanisms, they're a multitool
Think of it like this: They create a minovsky particle lattice to do shenanigans with particles and keep their machines afloat. They just look like physical rotors, they work NOTHING like them.
Also, any solution that allows flight is amazing. You might be forgetting, MOBILE SUITS DON'T FLY IN UC
The only exceptions are the Gouf Flight Type (explosion waiting to happen), Byalant (FUUUUUUUUEEEELLLLL GLUG GLUG GLUG), and suits with MA modes, which are overall less efficient in MA mode compared to normal MS.
It wasn't until Zanscare created the Beam Rotor that mass produced MS flight was even possible.
Of course, Anaheim was the first to TRULY perfect the concept with the mass produced V Gundam's Minovsky Flight System.
So yeah, Beam Rotors are actually really cool, plus I dig the aesthetic.
Now, wheels? THE WHEELS ARE FUCKING RETARDED.
>>12404242
>Now, wheels? THE WHEELS ARE FUCKING RETARDED.
You'll never become invincible with that attitude, anon.
>>12404163
Those are insects though.
>>12404181
>>12404242
Oooh that actually explains. It's like an evolution of the beam-shield tech from F91, nice
>>12404163
Aquatic shit would actually make sense since swimming may be kinda like floating in space so the aquatic ones, with propulsors, would be devastating.
>>12404242
>Now, wheels? THE WHEELS ARE FUCKING RETARDED.
Oh hey remember those cities from North America?
WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
Is Tomino not familiar with nuclear propulsion and Kawamori's mecha?
Mobile suits have fusion reactors. Which means they have tremendous heat source that last for years. All mobile suits should be able to fly in atmosphere for years at a time. Simply by having jet engines that take in air, heat with with heat from the reactor, and use the hot air to generate thrust. The way Valkyries do in Macross.
>nuclear jet engines are a thing in real life too.
>>12404242
The wheels are awesome and fucked shit up in universe. You wouldn't be calling them retarded if they flattened half of your continent.
>>12404287
>All mobile suits should be able to fly in atmosphere for years at a time.
Just because Mobile suits have nuclear fusion reactors doesn't mean they use nuclear jet engines. The fusion reactors just give the suits enough power to move and use the various sub-systems. The thrusters on mobile suits probably just use standard rocket propellant.
If MSes did have nuclear jet engines, they wouldn't be able to function in space.
>>12404256
>>12404282
>>12404385
Seeing the wheel defense force in action is truly a strange thing.
>>12404449
see that is the beauty of nuclear jets. when in space you close the intake and just use any gas on hand as propellant. now of course space flight is limited by the amount of propellant you have.
The Gundam Wing Aries Mobile Suit is a good example. Even though they didn't operate in space.
>>12404242
>Now, wheels? THE WHEELS ARE FUCKING RETARDED.
I'm actually wondering what those wheels are made of, because among other things they've resisted beam sabers, beam rifles, beam beams, reactor explosions, and general friction.
They should be making their battleships out of that shit.
>>12404449
>The thrusters on mobile suits probably just use standard rocket propellant.
Yep, that's confirmed for Early UC tech.
Furthermore, Balls use solid-fuel propellant while MS use liquid-fuel propellant.
>>12404477
even the Gouf Flight Type had nuclear jets.
The wiki says they used fuel. which would be wrong in real world engineering.
STOP HATING WHEELS GUYS
>>12404505
>>They should be making their battleships out of that shit.
Well the Adrastea seemed to be. Did you see just how much shit it could tank?
>>12404449
That's what he's saying.
He's saying that's dumb
He's saying that they could use the waste heat from the reactors for an air ram, which is a real thing that you can actually do, to not have to use rockets with propellant.
You don't use the reactor to "power" an air ram, it's not a power-intensive system, it uses WASTE HEAT for propulsion.
Keep in mind that they aren't functioning like actual rotors. They are not generating forward pull when they spin. What is actually happening is that they create a minovsky craft like effect where a cushion of particles takes some of the weight off the MS, allowing them to conserve fuel and fly easier. This is why they can have the rotor facing forward without actually being pulled forward, even in midair.
Basically, it's a cheapo minovsky craft that doubles as a beam shield.
>>12404242
>THE WHEELS ARE FUCKING RETARDED
Do you not know how multipurpose the Gedlav and Einerad are? The wheel acts as a shield, flail, and just general "run over and destroy shit" mechanism.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8FnLMIIDpQ
victory is shit, not even tomino likes it.
>>12404814
Not even the Zabi family would approve of such foolishness.
>>12404287
>Which means they have tremendous heat source that last for years
The problem is the power figures for MS reactors are miniscule, the fucking original Gundam had a reactor output of only 1.38 kW which is barely more than a fucking P-51, much less a modern fighter. You can't make a 50 ton robot fly with such a pathetic power source.
>>12404814
I will say it again, fuck your wheels
I wish the mech design had stayed around the beautiful level of the Shokew
The Gedlav and Einerads are stale piss
>>12404909
Wheels are clearly the future of MS technology.
>>12404924
the giant wheel has mounted heavy weapons. pilot still using his smaller beam rifle. exposing his mobile suit by dropping the beam shield.
>>12404242
>Not wanting to resurrect the lost art of driving from the middle ages
>>12404936
Why would he want to spend heavy weapon ammo when his beam rifle is clearly already overkill for the enemies he's fighting?
>>12407007
because quantity =! quality
and no it's not overkill, not when beam shields exist
>>12407011
It sure seems to be one-shotting the quadrupeds he's fighting rather handily, and causing massive explosions besides. Why would he waste bigger gun ammo when his smaller gun works just fine? Or does the beam rifle have less ammo than the cannons?
>>12407026
beam rifles are almost always OHKO when hitting a target's center mass, but the added weapons are nice to have as the MS can use them while being fully protected by the tire
the zanscare MS isn't always fighting other MS so having a mobility booster that also carries other weapons isn't a drawback, and yeah, sometimes beam rifles run out
>>12404242
>MOBILE SUITS DON'T FLY IN UC
Yes they do, they just have short operation times. We see the Mk-II and HS do it a few times in Zeta.
The difference is that the rotors allow for truly unlimited flight since they're powered by the minovsky fusion reactor more or less
>>12407050
>We see the Mk-II and HS
It's more like controlled fall than flying.
>>12407050
>>12407067
That's not flying! It's falling! With style!
>>12407067
If this ain't flying then it's definitely the longest free fall I've ever seen.
>>12407067
No. They're able to regain or sustain altitude easily when they position themselves upright or cruise around, which we see them do when fighting the Asshimer (first time IIRC, when Amuro shows up). Point is, they're able to sustain their altitude. The thrusters are simply powerful enough to do it.
The issue is that in combat is that they can't sustain that position as seen in the Mk-II vs Gaplant (Rosamia). Kamille and Rosamia had to upright themselves to gain altitude because they would lose it while upside down or moving horizontally. It's about thruster position.
>>12407149
So what you're describing is a series of thruster assisted jumps rather than level cruising flight.
>>12407166
>never land on the ground
>jump
>>12404518
>The wiki
What, Gundam Wikia? If you, how is it that you can take that as credible source?
>>12407189
>incapable of sustained altitude
>flight
>>12407206
>>12407149
>They're able to regain or sustain altitude easily when they position themselves upright or cruise around, which we see them do when fighting the Asshimer
>>12407211
No, you just described them continually falling and having to initiate thruster burns to -regain- altitude, not -sustain- a constant altitude.
>>12407215
That's only in combat. You're effectively saying jets can't fly and are only performing sustained jumps because they lose altitude when their nose is down and have to position themselves properly to gain or sustain altitude.
>>12407233
Except a mobile suit is not an aerodynamic body. Like a rocket, all it can do is burn fuel to offset its weight by brute force. Winged aircraft can glide in the air, so it isn't just a dead lift.
>>12407233
meant assisted jumps. In any case, the point is they've already demonstrated they CAN fly - sustain altitude while moving horizontally. Their acrobatic maneuvers simply force them to lose altitude or gain it, same as a plane.
>>12407244
Flying does not mean having an aerodynamic body. If it can sustain altitude under its own power while moving then it can fly.
>>12407280
No. Riding on top of a column of constant thrust out of an engine is hovering, not flying. Base Jabbers fly. Transformable suits fly in waverider mode. Gaplant hovers.
>>12407352
No, hovering is sustaining altitude while remaining stationary.
>>12404242
>THE WHEELS ARE FUCKING RETARDED
They were both awesome and effective as fuck. For retarded shit go watch Code Geass.
