Eh Mirai was clearly made just to be the kind of character you can sell figures with. Figure buyers often don't really care about the character itself, the more generic bishoujo design the better. There was a poll on Gundam.info what character people would like as figure next after Fumina one and Mirai got most votes. Gyanko doesn't attract that kind of audience, she was created based on S1 character's popularity who was also "love or hate" kind of character. Mirai is "love or don't care", depending how much you put importance on character's beauty.

Like, this isn't a complaint that gets brought up as much as any of the other shit, but compare Kirara and Mirai. Not even as overall characters, but just as the Gunpla Battle Tournament's "Image Character".
Kirara had a pre-existing, Gundam-related fandom she worked with, and the entire time was extremely animated, energetic, and even provided exposition for the in-universe audience.
By comparison, Mirai was always subdued, and never really did ANYTHING but stand there and make basic announcements, while making everyone fall in love with her just because she's apparently THAT pretty.

Mirai was a lot more involved before she became the image character, and when she was becoming the image character.
She did a lot of big sister supporting from the back, and would occasionally give Sekai advice, or even help him (remember when she used her popularity to take over the pool so he could train?)

Also Lightning turned out to be the better Gunpla than Tryon-3 technically.
