The entire movie is a tragically enjoyable title that shows off the franchise's greatest missed opportunity. The mecha designs were sexy and the plot was simple enough to enjoy without having to think too much.
Then there's Seabook, the star of the show. He might've be a special psychic space snowflake with MUH ENGINEERING DEGREE, but he wasn't an obnoxious cunt about it. The guy arguably the best Gundam MC to date, which in turn really helps to sell the story without making viewers over the age of 5 facepalm.

Heck, it has one of the more creative villain death out there, Iron Mask shot himself to death.
F91 is awful because it was almost a fucking masterpiece. It's one of the few Gundam anything that sell just how massive and destructive mobile suits are as weapons of war, has a nice cast, a good plot, an incredible soundtrack, all that stuff, but then it just breaks down from just how badly it needed a longer runtime.

anyone who has even a basic understanding of animation and/or sakuga should be able to tell f91 is nothing special. it looks okay but for a full-feature film it isnt spectacular... cca looks way better
It looks great, but the film itself is a mess.
These days I usually watch it with the commentary on, since I tend to get more out of it than I do the film on its own.
