As someone who quite likes Getter Robo (to the point of being a fan, even) Getter Robo Armageddon is fucking stupid. You don't really need to read anything to dive into it.
New Getter Robo isn't as bad, of course, in that you kind of get thrown into a situation, with one character getting introduced that's long term, and then the traditional 3 getting gradually introduced with more Trademark Getter Bitching Violence. (Some of the personal level violence is quite satisfying and gory, it's not all just Getter Robo fucking things up, although it really does fuck things up.)
Not that the various Getter Robo's in Armageddon don't fuck things up. That is a consistent Getter Robo thing.

But yes, sometimes I don't even get why Getter-3 exists when 1 takes care of the sky battles while 2 takes care of the land ones. At least Getter Poseidon was water-based and can do cyclone shit. Honestly, it just sucks to be Getter-3 for the most part, though he does shine when he is needed.

I know it's a very forward question but does anyone know the circumstances behind Ishikawa's death? He died young and seemingly suddenly. Did he have a history of heart problems or stress, or was it something that came out of nowhere?
Legendary manga author Yoshihiro Tatsumi died last month, but he had been suffering from cancer and was 79, so it wasn't sudden or unexpected.
