It's harder to build up a basic world setting that involves mechs and sex, compared to straight fantasy settings where sex monsters is a given. Granted, it's indeed ironic that Japan, with all the crazy shit they're into and experiment with, hasn't explored the more mechanized side of sex; with machines that can give endless fucks and with enough science, somehow impregnate them with a hybrid via nanotech sperm or something. Which on second thought, doesn't sound farfetched for Japan given their belief in everything having a soul of some sort.

No, budget reasons are not why everyone thought you can't adapt Rance. It's because the task is fucking herculean, it's like trying to make a dub of LoGH where you don't have actors doubling roles.
If you adapted the entire Rance series (disregarding non-canon stuff like Kichikuou or Slash!Thrust!Burn!), even if you just did the bare minimum stuff necesary for the story, it would be around 130 episodes long. So, let's try an ambitious rewrite.
This is a world where exist small metallic exoskeleton powered by magic stones (think micro-Escaflowne)

Seeing how it was suspended she though about how it could be put on easily without disturbing anything and so driven by a /m/ad envy she decide to try it on over her short and light summer dress.
It was made of leather and quite flabby at first, even the strange headgear pulling a reversed Y in front of her nose.
But thenwalking away from its stand she saw how it tightened.

She was surprised by how well it fit her, it was so tight it started to be indecent (who'd link the thin strap of the harness here ?!).
