Can anyone think of references to honeybees in any mech stories?

Can anyone think of references to honeybees in any mech stories?
>>
>>11113179
There are a few. One of the transformers (the yellow Autobot) is named Bumblebee. Also, if you consider the Alien franchise /m/ at least, in the expanded universe they have Queen aliens producing this "Royal Jelly" stuff like bees do.
>>
Victory Gundam.

You're not getting any other series more overt than that.
>>
Not many bees springing to mind super quickly. That giant bee-monster in Monsterpocalypse. iirc there's been a couple of bee enemies in Kamen Rider. Was there a bee-themed boss in Mega Man?

Plenty of force fields have that hexagonal honeycomb shape, for some reason.
Also, ZaBee might be bee themed, I don't know, should bee.
>>
>>11113271
Huh, you're right. Yeah, whats the deal with all the hexagons?
>>
I know /m/ occasionally discusses Doctor Who, I know there have been several references to bees in some of the newest series (around season 3.4 and 5 with David Tennant.

How could I forget everyone's favourite angry bee?

Also Gainax got on a vespa jag for a while, but that's technically a wasp thing.

I always thought that a group of robots with a sort of 'hive mind' based on bee and ant colonies would make a great enemy. It's sort of based on the idea that each individual in the colony only performs a very simple task by themselves, but together they work almost like a giant shared intelligence hive mind thing.

The closest examples I can think of would be The Borg from Star Trek and the robots from The Matrix.
>>
>>11113298
> a group of robots with a sort of 'hive mind'
They had a bit of that in the second Code Geass: Akito OVA.

Those robot mooks from Mass Effect are kinda like that.
A hive mind where there is no individuality (duh), and the more guys gathered in one location, the most processing capacity/inteligence they exhibit.
In the story, anyway. I didn't notice anything to that effect in the gameplay AI. Only played the first game though.

Well, there's always the BETA from Muv-Luv. If you can accept robots made out of flesh.
One of them even has a stinger. That's kind of like a bee, right?

I could swear that there was some anime about exactly that, though, a hivemind of robots. I think it was some kind of OVA.

>>

It's not really a hive mind, more like a democracy of programs where they all agree to follow whichever path the consensus chooses.

I find the idea Word argueing with Steam and the file explorer over which gun to use hilarious.

I forgot the best bee Digimon. Although it's not really mechanical it's actually inspired by Mothra. All the Digimon in Pendulum 5 borrowed sprites from the Godzilla Vpets and had designs vaguely inspired from them. DarkTyranomon was Godzilla, Raremon was Hedorah and etc.

Japan draws influence from insects with the same frequency you might see animals like sharks or gorillas in the west. Try finding a bug they haven't retooled into a robot, weapon, or collectable critter.
