How to get into Goethe?
I've got an old collection of his works, in Greek (my native language).
Is it even worth it if it's not going to be in German?
I think some of his works (poems of course, but also plays, e.g. Faust, Iphigenie auf Tauris) are best read in German but I think reading his novels in Greek could be fine if the translator is appropriately skilled.

German is more closely related to English than it is to Greek. English is sort of like German's bastard child that grew up to become obscenely successful, being as it is the global language of today (like Greek was 2000 years ago). Given its current status and proximity to the source language, I would say that English is generally speaking a much better candidate for translating German than is Greek.
