I like Dubliners, but I like short stories.
I also sometimes like reading comprehensible and coherent stories by one of the greatest writers in the history of literature rather than being challenged every sentence. Don't get me wrong, I like that sometimes, too.
I don't know. Dubliners is Joyce at his comfiest, and I don't see anything wrong with that.

this was my first joyce. i read it because I was thoroughly let down by another short story book what we talk about when we talk about love. yeah I found most of the stories boring some were good. it was better than the carver book for sure. what are other good short story books. how does borges compare? anyone read Maughams short stories?

Tolstoy, but his are more novellas. Death of Ivan Ilyich, The Devil etc. they're all good. Hadji Murat particularly is one of my all time favorite works.

In general, I don't think the plot is that relevant in short stories as a genre. I don't think that's what matters in Hemingway's or Carver's short stories. I could be wrong
