Who here is familiar with the writings of Breece DJ Pancake?
If you're not familiar with him, he was a short story writer writer from West Virginia. He was good, really good. I've only been able to find 4 of his stories online (he was published in the Atlantic) and I was absolutely blown away each time. His characters, his imagery, his prose, i cannot honestly say there is a better post WWII short story writer.
Seriously, this guy is good. Bookmark a story, set aside an hour, and read one. His writing is short, concise and a little confusing with all the flashbacks.

The last one is my favorite, but i recommend you read them all if you have the time.
Little more about him, while at the University of Virginia, he basically made himself out to be an uneducated hillbilly to everyone around him. He was extremely anti-social and an alcoholic. He died at 27 by suicide. I've heard that his death was somewhat mysterious, but i can't find anything on it. Does anyone know anything about it?
