Are there any good works that originated in this language? I tried reading La Vida Es Sueño and a work by Carlos Fuentes (both recommended to me by my Spanish major friend), but could not get into them. I've been studying Spanish for over a year now and consider myself a fluent reader, but have only read English works translated into Spanish (Harry Potter and The Hunger Games so far). I'm worried I'm learning "English-Spanish", but everything I've read that was first written in Spanish has been garbage.

Any Spanish readers here?

What kind of literature are you interested in, anon?
Most Spanish best stuff it's quite old, but there are some nice Latin American authors you could easily get into.

BTW, La vida es sueño it's not garbage, senpai.

If you want to read excelent spanish books, I would recommend you:
>cien años de soledad by Garcia Marquez
>El aleph by Jorge Luis Borges
>Historia de la gaviota y el gato que le enseñó a volar by Luis Sepúlveda
>Niebla by Miguel de Unamuno (is not the best book ever written and the story is wuite simple, but the idea of the character meeting the author is quite funny)
> Un juez rural (i don't remember who is the author, sorry)
> Rayuela by Julio Cortazar is quite interesting and engaging, and it can be read as you want, you could follow the author's order or not, it is up to you
> cantar del mio cid, and Don Quixote if you want some middle age stories

I recommend you to start reading la gaviota blah blah blah, is easy to read and the story is very emotional

Contemporary i would recommend Enrique Vila Matas

i fear turning out like these later generations that end up 'Americanized' and lose their nativé tongues.

.thats what i fear the most about living in this country.

awesome list though, how about some films worth recommending?

>not liking Fuentes
>not liking Calderón de la Barca

Date un balazo, ese.

Volverás a Región, by Juan Benet.

The only books you should read are Pedro Páramo and Don Quijote.

Literally everything that's ever been written in spanish is garbage. >>8238284 stuff like this is the perfect example of what goes around as good. If I never see another idiot carrying around a shitty copy of Rayuela on the subway ever again, it'd be too soon.

>Don Quijote

why does it get so much appraisal?
