Any books similar to this?
ITT Family/ Coming-of-age stories in general I suppose.
I'm mostly looking for themes like:
>the struggles of childhood/ adolescence
>everyday school/ family/ work life
>first experiences
Preferably American or English.

To Kill A Mockingbird would also be a good example.
I don't. But I love this book. One of my biggest goals in life is to write a better film for this book than the 1945 one.

Portrait of the Artist by James Joyce

hah, I'm actually about to read this, as soon as I finish the Magic Mountain. Good to know it has these themes. Along with Joyce's writing, it should be pretty enjoyable.

It completes and ends the entire genre. No need to read any other coming of age stories after.

More suggestions pls.
This doesn't fit 100%, but David Beniof's City of Thieves is a pretty good coming-of-age story. It's about the siege of Leningrad though, so the everyday life/family elements are minimal.

Carson McCullers' The Heart is a Lonely Hunter has four main characters, one of which is a 13-year-old girl in a classic coming-of-age form.
Not to hijack this thread, but can anyone recommend books featuring bookish narrators/protagonists? I want something like A Portrait..., The Secret History or Special Topics in Calamity Physics.
