I would say it's probably on the editor, not the translator, but given that it's the name of the character and not the relationship that's wrong, it's possible it was Mishima. I can't imagine mis-translating katakana like that.

I guess. I don't see why Kashiwagi would make an error here though, or what the point of having him make an error like this would be.
First thing I thought of is that an error like this would fit splendidly in Natsume Souseki's "I Am a Cat", where the intellectual class tries to pretend that they're far more familiar with western culture than they really are, though Kashiwagi doesn't seem to be that sort of character.
