A friend of mine paid €70 to hear Alain de Botton speak for 20 minutes, and asked me to come along (and pay €70 as well). I said I was busy and he didn't enquire further.

Their philosophy videos are okay introductions to a philosopher if you've never read philosophy.
>>8232502
This. Outside of their philosopher videos, they're just peddling ideological bullshit. But I mean, who isn't?
>>8232444
Fake, I could make that website in an hour
>>8232502
The problem is they're so watered down and can cause misconceptions from dummies who think they don't have to actually read philosophy books.

Whenever close friends are curious on philosophy, they tend to come to me. As opposed to giving them some fragmented discussion which might be too high-level for them (not to say I consider myself high-level, but rather high-level compared to their understanding) I send them specific videos from there and then refer them to introduction texts followed by the actual material. Sadly not everybody can throw themselves into the deep end and swim. Easier to work from their level to educate more into the necessity of higher thought.
