The Thin Red Line had some good battle scenes.
Pearl Harbor sequence in From Here to Eternity (only about 50 pages in a 900 page book)
Bunker Hill by Howard Fast. Made hiding behind a barricade and shooting redcoats seem like a pleasant way to spend an afternoon. Until the ammo ran out.
