Should one read Faust before reading The Master and Margarita?

I'm going on holiday and have been considering taking The Master and Margarita with me, but I haven't read Faust yet.

You'll miss the Faust references but it won't damage the plot or enjoyment of it. Some annotated versions point out the Faust references too (like when Woland is first introduced, they'll point out it's a variant of one of Faust's character names)
