Can you comment on which is better? Or maybe the differences? I have heard Gombrich is shorter and more readable but Janson is more dry and comprehensive. I was leaning towards Janson.

If you want to enjoy the reading and want to learn how to enjoy art (ie, you now look at a painting and don't really feel anything), I recommend Gombrich. If you already enjoy looking at art, Janson is probably better (more informative).
