Is realist literature dying /lit/? Will we soon be stuck with only pomo books being good?

so?

I thini the idea of literary currents is dying. There will still be great authors, but they will like write in what style they choose.

If anything the current trend is towards new sincerity/social realism/slice of life. Zadie Smith, Jonathan Franzen, etc.
>>

Yep. The 20th century took the idea of """progression""" in art forms to the respective logical conclusions and we are now free.

Let me introduce to you, the new meme movement: the sincerity meme. Irony has gotten out of hand and memes have become “meme”ingless.

Cast your mind back to 2008. Memes without the many layers of irony. Simpler times, no? 2008: a time where memes were grounded in reality, the virtual sister to the common “joke”. Back in 2008 memes made sense.

The chasm between normie memes and avante-memes must be mended. Normies and autists alike must find common ground. Death to the meme abyss!

The initial wave of memes circa 2008 seemed to be modern days equivalent to the Ancient Greek iambic poetry. But they have since mutated, become embedded in indecipherable layers of meta-humour. The purpose of memme has been lost.

Irony leaves you empty and unable to enjoy anything, or eventually you age out of irony, being ironic and cool and above everything is cool when you are a kid but then you hit 30 and realize, man, you know what i actually want to enjoy something before i die even if its corny or dumb.
Realism is being killed in all media, movies are nothing but super hero sequels.
There are no longer movies about regular human beings facing the trials of life.
The most popular books are fantasy and scifi for young adults, thats if they even read them anymore.
Music is infected by hip op culture which has been warped into a capitalistic monstrosity about always being successful, fucking, and making more money.
The most popular tv shows are the walking dead and game of thrones.

You have to wonder, is society demanding distractions from the harsh world are do the the powers that be create them to prop up their crumbling system so you wont occupy wall street or hold tea parties and instead fight over female ghostbusters.

I bet self sufficient Amish people are happy as fuck, they dont turn on an idiot box and get zapped with the fear waves.
Although their personal lives must be intense.

Two of the major literary releases I've perused of late are solid tomes of realism: Everybody Rise and Sweetbitter.

If anything, they're kinda boringly realistic. These seems to be a trend in post-recession novels. People are actually talking about money the way it was discussed in 19th c. novels.
