For a man that was so obsessed with aesthetics, how did he reconcile the thoughts of opposing eroticism and sexuality with his views on art?

I think porn was just taboo to discuss back then.
He might give the relative impression of being open about sex in his writings compared to other philosophers, but he really wasn't.He also probably fucked his dog.

because sexuality is an affirmation of the will to live while art is willingless comprehension. pretty straightforward desu

>implying Schopenhauer thought about sex
I love the guy, but even Nietzsche was more alpha than him, when it came to women.
Even Goethe made fun of how awkward he was.

But erotic art (like the Venus de Milo as a cheesy example) inspires the will to life as it's artistic goal no????????????

Schopenhauer thought about sex fucktons but denied it in the end, whereas Nietzche wanted the Übermensch to bang lots of chicks really hard

Then in Schopenhauer's view it has little artistic merit
This sounds like a misunderstanding you could only have If you haven't read Schopenhauer.
He thought eroticism shit has no artistic merit because it just called human hunger for its effect. Pair of tits in oil paint or a drawing of juicy plums are about the same in this case: if there entire work is focused on them as objects of desire there is no higher meaning.
This does not mean in life he denied tits or plums

Schopenhauer was a notorious womanizer in his youth, and allegedly very handsome.
Basically he was the Sauerkraut Pimpernel.
