What are your opinions on brazilian /lit/? I noticed some people here enjoy pic related andd Drummond, but I really haven't seen geniuses as Machado de Assis mentioned throughout my years of lurking.
Have you read any brazilian books? If so, what were your impressions?; and if not, what is your overview about that country's literary production, if any?

Better than japanese, african (general), australian and mostly latino literature, at least.
Lima Barreto and Grasciliano Ramos were geniuses.

Could you name ten Japanese authors that you've read? Or five even? If you haven't read at least that many then you shouldn't really take a stance on it.

The only Brazilian worth reading is Machado de Assis. All others are just second rate imitators of European Modernists.

There's some terrific Australian lit. They do well for a sparsely populated nation.
Halfway through this, it's got some good insights into pedagogical practices and is an inspiring read.
