ITT: Novels you like by writers you don't like

I couldn't get through Catcher in the Rye when I tried reading it. I couldn't even get through the first few pages of pic related the first few times I tried picking it up. But one day, something clicked, and I ended up seeing it through to the end. I enjoyed it so much, that I picked up Nine Stories...

And after reading through half of it, I had to put it down because I didn't like it.

If you liked Franny and Zooey, Raise High the Roofbeam, Carpenters! ad Seymour: An Introduction would probably be up your alley.

Franny and Zooey abandoned the teen angst and concentrated on the relation between writer and his audience. Granted, the religious mumbo-jumbo can get tiresome, but the book is definitely a worthwile perspective on Salinger apart from the author that defined "teen angst".
