What do you guys think of Alan Moore? I really enjoyed his Crossed series.

I actually like him more nowadays, since he started writing prose and became a half-mad hermit. Voice of the Fire/Providence > Watchmen/V for Vendetta. And hopefully Jerusalem will be the best yet, though I dunno what he's on about with that cover.

the lost girls is my favorite comic of all time. shit had me in stitches. especially the family that all fucked each other and had the dog humping a leg while they were running train lmao

All literature is, in fact, literal magic.

Discuss.

I'd phrase it the reverse, that all "magic" ever was is the manipulation of words and symbols.

>"Now, as I understand it, the bards were feared. They were respected, but more than that they were feared. If you were just some magician, if you'd pissed off some witch, then what's she gonna do, she's gonna put a curse on you, and what's gonna happen? Your hens are gonna lay funny, your milk's gonna go sour, maybe one of your kids is gonna get a hare-lip or something like that — no big deal. You piss off a bard, and forget about putting a curse on you, he might put a satire on you. And if he was a skilful bard, he puts a satire on you, it destroys you in the eyes of your community, it shows you up as ridiculous, lame, pathetic, worthless, in the eyes of your community, in the eyes of your family, in the eyes of your children, in the eyes of yourself, and if it's a particularly good bard, and he's written a particularly good satire, then three hundred years after you're dead, people are still gonna be laughing, at what a twat you were."

>Providence
I'm really tempted to order that limited edition of Act One desu

I had no idea that Alan Moore wrote part of Crossed. Are those any good in general? Looks pretty edgy but fun. I saw a picture of a guy raping a dolphin through it's blowhole. . .wew
>>
Voice of the Fire > From Hell > Unearthing > everything else he's done

>>8151736
He only wrote the first part of Crossed+100, meaning the first six issues or so. The writer who took over afterwards isn't doing too badly, but he isn't Moore.
+100 doesn't have much to do with the Crossed series besides the setting. The rest of it is just what it looks like, mindless gore, and most of it isn't good, no.

>V for Vendetta
>Promethea
>League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
>Voice of Fire

Miracleman, for all its flaws, has some excellent prose in it.

Spurrier is actually really good, x-men legacy is possibly the best modern bildungsroman
>>
>>8151545
Literally wrote a child porn comic.
>>
Loved how he didn't change the beginning of V for Vendetta after he discovered a nuclear fallout wouldn't happen the way he described it,
Reason, he said it the work needed
To be published in its originality despite it's flaws,
George Lucas could learn something

I can't help but wonder whether Gandalf and Moondog might be close relatives of his?

But yeah, I've enjoyed everything I've read of his.

There are good reasons why he's as popular as he is.
