Reminds me of mine a little bit in taste and presentation. Not a whole lot, but enough.

Books on the left are ones I own that I've read to completion.

>>
>>8134650

The person who feels embarrassed for another person that owns self-help books has some seriously unresolved issues.
>>
>>8134687
Owning them and trying to better yourself is different then displaying them proudly on your bookshelf.
>>
>>8134687

No everything about op's taste is bad, he has entry level everything and not in a good way, it's obvious he's off to a terrible start and will never get anywhere.

He can feel free to prove everyone wrong and come back in a year once he's dropped some shit off his shelf.
>>
whats the point of a book collection when you can just get most books from a library if you feel like re reading them

LITERALLY vinyl-tier in terms of practicality and inconvenience at more expensive costs.
>>
>>8134650
What books in particular are most embarrassing, anon? Enlighten us thanks
>>
>>8134698
or maybe hes just reading those books because they interest him, and he isn't trying to "get anywhere"

btw which shelf is yours?
>>
>>8134688

Hahahaha, ok ok I'm with you there. But you did say in your original post that owning them is embarrassing and now you're saying that owning them and displaying them are different.

I'm onto you.

How is Literature and Revolution? Did you know Mark Kermode is Frank Kermode's father?
>>
>>8135783
>>8135787
>>8135791
nice, really like it anon
>>
>>8135795
Literature and Revolution has some interesting things to say about the role of art in a Socialist society, but i struggled with it more than i expected to because it entirely bases itself around exploration of contemporary Russian poets. The edition there (Haymarket) has some samples of the work of each poet discussed, which is very helpful.
Also, Trotsky uses a register that caters to readers who are familiar with the early stages of the Russian revolution in depth, so you might find it tricky if you havent studied it. Still, he has some pretty fascinating ideas so i'd definitely recommend it.

Do you mean Frank Kermode is Mark Kermode's father? I'd wondered if that was the case for a while, surprised there isn't a mention of it on either of their Wiki pages.
>>
>>8135791
Dorothy Parker!

Nice collection and nice presentation
>>
>>8135865
Yeah my coursework at one point included the Great Gatsby (surprise surprise) as one of the texts, and i was struggling to get to grips with Daisy Buchanan as both a character and a symbol of femininity in the lost generation. Dorothy Parker really helped me figure it out (as well as being pretty hilarious and well worth a read regardless).

Also I don't think it's a fire hazard. The books on the side are cool to the touch and the vents aren't really covered.

I have seen a much larger version of Jung's Red Book, pretty new-looking, in a fine bookstore. That thing is about the size of a VCR. Based on scale, that edition is clearly much larger than the one in OP's pic.

That's the expensive one, I'm sure.

Today only the person who no longer believes in a happy ending, only he who has consciously renounced it, is able to live. A happy century does not exist; but there are moments of happiness, and there is freedom in the moment.

It's nice. It's just a glitzy exterior for the same text from the 50's you'd find anywhere else, but the paper is nice quality and it has that odd ridged/ragged zigzag cut to the opposite side.

As for the text, it's great. A bunch of forewords and introductions, a well organized text and every myth is somewhat dryly told with a much more interesting section following it that details the cultural and historical basis for the myth, for example a story about someone getting castrated with a sickle having possible links to a north African tribe noted for doing the same after battles.

Best books there are moby dick and catcher, sadly. This shows no discernable taste other than bad 19th and early 20th century romance. If this is real, and not you stocking shelf to impress via cargo-cult intellectuality, you need better taste.

I don't know exactly. Gallimard's "Collection Blanche" (literally "White Collection") is probably the most famous collection and they always had a creamy cover. And almost all the publishing houses have their own version of that collection, where all new book have the same style.

The books that are on the lower shelf are pocket books but more or less the same logic applies (but they all have a picture on the cover this time).
