He had a point about Faulkner's provincialism. I always find Faulkner to be inferior to other great authors of the period because he's not only physically but spiritually and mentally stuck in the south. Even his transformative efforts fail to transcend that limitation he had.

The one was MUH DUBLIN PARALYSIS N SHIET and the other was MUH UPPER CLASS MEMORIES N SHIET.
Both tried to smuggle poetry into their boring prose. Borges was right, Faulkner could do what Joyce could not; perfectly combine style and substance.
