I dont meam to start /his/ shitposting but i started reading Candide and im at the part where Candide murders his waifu's brother. While I do understand the irony of Candide's story it's also quite tragic how he lived a virtuous life up until he realized his waifu wasn't dead and started evading justice just because of a women.

afaik candide is a criticism of leibnitz's idea that we live in the best of the possible worlds that the god could create, since that idea is not popular whatsoever for quite a while, there is no reason to read candide

voltaire thinks the Leibnitz philosophy which Candide and Pangloss follow is ridiculous and makes it look as such by making the two get fucked over and over. Also, Candide's philosophy at the end is what Voltaire thinks matters

it's a comedy dude, the whole story is based on one joke. No English professor would closely analyze it, the book entirely is tongue in cheek and not exactly of much literary merit
