/lit/, how do I become based like this mensch?
By being born with the ability to flawlessly recite long poems after just having heard them, by being able to recite a great deal of important English literature off the top of your head, by being able to read hundreds of pages an hour, and by having developed a serious interest in complex literature by the age of 10.
In other words: you don't.

That's a mighty fine Harold.Do you have any more?

Well, I've always thought that the whole five-hundred-pages an hour thing was an overestimation, but there's an interview where he himself attests it, so I dunno. He does say he reads that fast only when 'reading purely for information:' if he wants to enjoy himself, he slows down to a more or less normal pace. The rest, as far as I know, is true; he claims to be able to recite, for example, the entirety of Paradise Lost, most of Shakespeare, and all the major poems of Walt Whitman. And actually, he says he began reading and enjoying Yiddish poetry at around age six, and began reading English poetry at age eight, so even younger than ten. Supposedly he read Paradise Lost at age 13.

They practically make themselves.
Does that make Harold like the meme messiah? His memes are begotten, not made

He also says that he has all of Yeats by heart. Yeats was prolific; that is a serious feat.

Also, at the bottom of all this, you actually need to have a love for reading.
/lit/ doesn't love reading, so they have a long way to go.
