The White People by Arthur Machen.

The King in Yellow. RW Chambers is better than Lovecraft tee bee queue H.

My favorite is "Post in fucking sci-fi general you fucking faggot, this isn't worthy of a thread."

Thomas Ligotti. The Last Feast of Harlequin is a passable Lovecraft pastiche and his more experimental stuff is great. The Nightmare Network is my favorite thing he's written.

i second the king in yellow, it's creepy rather than scary and very excellently written

Any of Robert Aickman's short stories

I finished reading the image in my head before I looked at it all. My intuition was a lot funnier.

I just read the White People yesterday, holy shit.

It kinda lost its edge for me in the third act, but that could have been because all the vagueries built up and I lost track of the supernatural narrative. Maybe it was the stream-of-consciousness that lost me, but it was very convincingly written like a Victorian 16 year-old's journal, which is impressive.
