Usually when people bring up C. S. Lewis on /lit/ it's in connection to The Chronicles of Narnia. I'm interested in knowing what the verdict is on The Screwtape Letters.

what i know it's that one should avoid his space trilogy because it's a schmaltzy piece of crap

It's definitely Lewis' fiction at it's preachiest. It's fine, but it is what it is: a series of letters. It's better to read as a play or a parabolic essay, not as a straight piece of fiction like Narnia.

Perelandra was pretty based, and the first was a good adventure story. The third was balls.

I enjoyed it. It doesn't really present arguments or possess a strong narrative, but it is cool too receive a better idea about what Christianity/Western culture constitutes as corrupting and sinful.

There are many better books about the sand subject matter though. Even Oscar Wilde covered much of the subject matter with more craft in Dorian Grey

It starts off strong, gets a little slow in the middle but wraps everything up nicely.
