Which books will help me recover from the /r9k/ mindset?
>>
None. Even a few weeks of using that board will imprint it's horrible worldview into your mind.

You're doomed to be that same bitter virgin forever.
>>
Literally all of them. Combine reading with travel and someday soon you may even be a passable human.

Why? I found the ideas in Meditations to be practical and easy to implement in everyday life.

Honestly, you just need something to fuck you up emotionally that isn't muh feels when no gf-type grief

Books with heavy-handed pathos are best, even if they tend to be a bit plebby. Flowers for Algernon or A Prayer For Owen Meany will do nicely

If you're honestly asking, OP, here's what worked for me

First, I completely cut off all contact on /r9k/ or boards even vaguely similar to them in nature. In fact, quitting 4chan in general might be a good idea.

Second, I got into a lot of really weird shit that was very much different from what I was normally into. I used to very much be a rationalist, humanist, materialist atheist, for example. So I began reading things that were in direct opposition to my beliefs, things I would have scoffed at as superstitious or pretentious. Introduction to Magic, by Evola. Nietzsche. That sort of thing.

It helped a LOT. I think the idea is that reading things that I would have previously scoffed at got me thinking in new ways, and that helped me in my journey away from the r9k mental rut.

So it depends on YOU, OP. What are your beliefs? Read things that challenge them or contradict them.

Nothing, because although it's hyperbolic, it's also suppressed truth. Your mind will detect the patterns you have been sensitized to there when it inevitably encounters them in reality.

Not that anon, and not even close to /r9k/, but some of the basic stuff I see /r9k/ saying is just trivially, obviously true. Things like "women generally want sex with people they find attractive".

The mystery is why /r9k/ thinks this is some mind-blowing discovery, and why it thinks the solution is to shoot people instead of, for example, trying to become attractive.

Because women are shallow, petty, animalistic, vapid herd animals and the spectrum of attractive behavior is much too restrictive.

Also, fuck off feminarchy-enabler with your "man up and be attractive" line. Masculinity and success in life are not defined by being a nice divorcee and alimony ticket for the Great Roastie.

We're living in this Orwellian bizarro world where women are "oppressed" dictators, but we tolerate it because they seem too petty and prosaic to do anything really evil with that power, but it seems we're being slowly proved wrong on that point.

Just going outside will help. The defeatism of r9k is too absurd to hold up against reality.
>>
>>7959450

You don't need that to travel, you can do it on a budget. Fuck, I managed to save 20.000 dollars in a year and a half of part time work, despite not even being very frugal. Plenty to allow me to travel extensively. Long-term goals like that also work like a charm against r9k defeatism.
>>
>>7959629

Not really. Attractiveness and IQ correlate. Take your own advice and apply it.
>>
>>7956611
I think what will fare you well the most will be books of self-discovery. Books that will guide your thoughts towards ideas and principles of proper behavior. When I say proper behavior I mean actions and attitudes that you yourself think of right and proper. You must find them to be challenging but to the improvement of yourself, either physically or psychological. You must come to the realization that failure is part of improvement. Knowing that you will fail over and over, and with less frequency if you learn from mistakes and from other sources, and, most importantly, continue to take action, then you will have entered into a process of continual self-development. Why care about self-development or getting better? Isn't life just easier not doing anything? Isn't just enjoying idleness and complacency, such as the pleasures of television, pornography, video games, drugs etc, part of enjoying life? Well, subjectivity is a funny word and people, rightly, use it to justify a million and one things, but behind subjectivity there's also the objective analysis of the human experience that is the detriment and decay of your overall well being. Understanding what you are and who you are, how you work, how your brain works, what will make your life more fulfilling given our human condition (need for love, desire to have children, socialize, health, etc) you realize that the merging of subjective motives for harmful behaviors clash enormously with the objective reality that your experience, in terms of well-being, as a conscious human being also depends on various conditions that are subject to your behavior. Knowing this you must then make it a priority to best yourself to maximize your experience of being alive. Learn how to be healthy. Learn how to be social. Learn what it takes to love another human being. Know that when you're older, one day you will look back at your life and look at those memories that seem more meaningful to you, a family that you created, being side by side with somebody that chose to love you, the great accomplishments of hard work and dedication, etc.

tl;dr develop your principles, try your best to live by them, you will develop a stronger identity, you will develop stronger confidence if you devote yourself to these principles. Put yourself out there, do not care about outcomes, whether failures or not, if what you're doing is something that you think is right. Don't let your state of being get in the way of right actions. You will find happiness in integrity and devotion, you will achieve goals that one day will seem more meaningful that anything else you've done in your life.

Yes, you do appear to be. I recommend speaking to a professional and getting some proper meds.

>>7956611

I think people are basically right when they say you should just read widely and try to expand your life experience. The red pill is just another term for confirmation bias; once you start believing that the feminazi illuminati are running the world, you'll start seeing them everywhere. Take on new challenges; open yourself up to new experiences; read widely and critically. Most importantly, learn self discipline and self respect.

For someone in an /r9k/ rut, everything may look very bleak, but small changes in behaviour can bring about big improvements. Just don't expect everything to change at once; focus on putting one foot in front of the other and being a little bit better than you were yesterday.
>>
>>7959450
Quit being a bitter little shit and you'll see it isn't hard to travel, you just have to commit to doing it. If you live in the US, you can easily travel to South/Central America and stay for a week or more on $1000 or less. Literally anybody could save that much money.

If you live in Europe, you have even less of an excuse. Take a weekend, hop on the train, and stay in a hostel. Could probably get away with going to most cities for under $200 no matter where you live.

Traveling doesn't have to be the whole "backpack through Europe on Mommy and Daddy's money" experience. You can do it piecemeal, it is just entirely on you to make it happen. I'm far from rich but I've been to seven countries and will be moving abroad in a year or so. Just decide you're going to go.

the r9k mindset is pretty much completely true, the question is how much you have to worry about it. if you're an attractive man, it doesn't really matter. if you're not, it does. what matters is whether or not the truth negatively affects you.
>>
>>7959450

What are you supposed to do while traveling? I don't suppose sightseening and visiting museums will do anything to you.
>>
>>7960242
Of course you should do both of those things, especially the museums. But you should also spend time with people. Go to cafes, bars, and clubs. Stay in hostels and party with people from all over the world. Just experience everything you can.

>>
>>7960264
Can't believe I forgot the food. That is one of the best parts. Go to amazing restaurants and try new shit. It doesn't have to be expensive at all, just go where locals go. One of the best times I had in Spain was hanging out at a tapas restaurant with some Australians I had met, eating plate after place of $2 tapas, and drinking house vermouth.
>>
>>7960259
>>7960264
>>7960292

People will ignore you or treat you like shit if you are not attractive/cool enough. You will feel like shit eating in restaurants alone, too. People can sense your status in groups and they will give you the treatment that they think you deserve.

Try and redpill me on this.

Human contact will help. Maybe read the Waves, I think it present different people you would hate in a relatable way and might enlighten you just a tiny bit.
>>
>>7960372
people dont like associating with ugly people, especially girls hate being around ugly men. so if the whole idea is to go traveling and randomly meet people to be friendly with, this is less likely to happen with an ugly person. if they got this far in their lives without having a good social life, why would suddenly going to a different country magically change things in 2 days?

Because you are forced to get away from your computer screen, live in a small room with other people where you more-or-less have to interact, and those people (fellow travelers) are all there to do the same thing you are so you aren't trying to interact with people as they go about their daily lives. I'm a pretty shy and somewhat socially awkward guy. I'm also kinda fat and moderately unattractive. I still had a fantastic time and met really fun people.
>>

>>
>>7960405
Okay are you disfigured or just a fatty that doesn't shower enough, needs a haircut some new clothing and a shave? If the latter get to a socially acceptable level. Now for the how to make friends part you have to realize that by the simple virtue of being somewhere far from home you are more interesting now, you have stories to tell, you are not part if the usual scenery, you can just try to initiate contact without seeming like a creepy guy with no friends. Even better if you life in hostels or specifically seek places for young culture tourists there is plenty of people just like you who also don't know anyone and want to hang out. The easiest way I ever made friends was at an international meetup in the city I live. There are no barriers, they don't have better friends, they want to connect to you and I repeat myself even you flyover state neet will have something to say to them just because the very normal daily experiences are so different from theirs.

I'm not ugly (not any more than the average Joe) and it's not about being ugly.

My best effort completely insane theory at the moment (I am pretty sure it will change in the future) is such: the society has all sorts of hierarchies within it, one of which is the coolness hierarchy, which is an exchange network at the same time (a bit like potlatch) where people exchange attention and good time with each other. You don't get to receive good time from other people if you can't give anything back, and you can't because this potlatch stuff works in such a way that most of what you can give, you have to get from other people first, and if you have no people to get stuff from, you can't give, too, and that locks you up in this situation where many /r9k/ folks are. To quickly establish if you can give anything (ie your status) people use special sort of cues and signs. Higher-status person knows all the signs that lower-status person knows, but not the other way around, like here on this sub if A has read 1984 and Brave New World, B has read 1984, Brave New World and also We and Invitation to Beheading, they will both know which one of them is more pleb after talking 5 minutes. When it comes to coolness hierarchy/good-time exchange network, relevant cues and signs are called "social skills", something that I have none of.

Why someone ended up in this position is not even relevant, maybe they have a personality disorder or some other psychological problem, the important thing is that this hierarchy is self-reinforcing so telling someone that they should "just talk to people" is counter-productive and a bit evil (as if you transfer all the responsibility for this social evil from the society to the person's bad judgement).

By the way, I tried to travel and found it both boring and very demanding.

>vrginia woolf is good in terms of learning that women can be as brilliant as men

Funniest thing I've read today.
If it wasn't for her being a woman no one would give a shit because she has absolutely nothing to say.
Face it, all good art is produced by men. That's it. Yeah, you can point out Stein, Woolf, Lispector, but they are nothing against their male counterparts.
The mindset of /r9k/ is one made of resentment; their insights however are absolutely true and reveal women, as men through the ages have known, to be nothing than child factories, the only thing they excel at.
>>
>>7960667

Ah yes, Woolf and Didion have nothing against John Green and Stephen King.
>>
>>7960667
what i mean to say with the bit you forgot to quote is that she manages to write stuff that is strongly empathetic to the bitter r9k mentality but the fact that it's being written by a woman might give a robot pause and make them realise it's a human condition, not a male one
>>

I've only read the Waves and wasn't aware of any robotics. On the women's side there's the socialite robots hate, the motherly type robots desire and the anxious hermit that robots refuse to believe in. And the men are an a poet who is deeply interested in other people, someone driven to professional success and a gay man.
>>
>>7960424
That's what I thought too. I even went as far as spending several months living in hostels (I had a job too and all), although not with the traveler sort, but with working class people who can't afford better lodging or Nepalese migrant workers waiting for their EU visas. The most social interaction I got out of it (disregarding the bedbugs, who can be pretty social at night) was smoking some shitty synthetic drug once.
