Which do you think are the worst sins that a writer can commit?
>>7886665
Not being concise.
I fcking hate empty romantic triangles.
Writing anything Nabokov disliked: fat books of lazy ideas, socially-minded allegories, derivative and lifeless claptrap, hopeless mires of misunderstood mythology and facile symbolism.
Adultery, Envy, and Greed (and, to some extent, Dishonesty) aren't frowned upon in today's society.
>>7886681
>socially-minded allegories,
What does this mean?
>>7886684
books about Issues, Marxian trash, books that turn on race, class, and gender, etc
>>7886681
But anon
those are the kind of books that today's academia loves
>>7886665
Double standard hypocrisy
>>7886710
That's because academics tend to be charlatans, tasteless and insipid. Has pretty much always been the case
>>7886681
otoh, if it's a fat book of industrious ideas, whoa man, watch out
Anything that 4chan actuallyunironically likes.
If it suits a lot of peaople it probably suks
Writing one or two good books and then selfishly dying in a car accident or suicide etc etc
FEAR
Why has no one said murder yet? C'mon guys, it seems pretty obvious.
>>7887618
Suicide isn't selfish.
Guys, I kinda meant sins within its own book/story/etc.
Anything romantic love and sex related. Absolutely bores me to death.
>>7887728

Do you think this is 1960 m8? Cheating on your spouse is no longer considered normal or socially acceptable
>>7887673
how so?
>>7886665
be mass murderer of personages
obvious purple prose as a substitute for talent
>>7889135
That makes him a great writer, though.
He's not afraid to kill some characters just to move the plot or add some drama.
>>7888870
You're the fool in this scenario, anon. All those types of books existed in some form when Nabokov was alive, and he criticized them at length.
dull plot
Vampires, werewolves, zombies and all the stuff that just smells like a wordly fart.
Books about the Holocaust, there are some good ones but most of them are boring drivel that try to cash in on a tragic event.
I usually stay away from anything World War II related.
>>7886682
Shhh we don't say the ugly ones
Dishonesty as a tool of greed, or a writer trying to entrap their readers. This applies to high brow literature as well, or even more.
>>7886682
>Today's society
m8, America has been degenerate for at least a fucking century. Adultery wasn't the problem back then. Getting fucking caught was. Imagine if most normal people today fit the /r9k/ stereotype. They wore fedoras and went around tipping them and acting like white knights while secretly being complete, whoring pigs. That's what the fucking 40's/50's were like.
Urbanization was a mistake.

I'm not a good basketball player, but i have a good idea of what traits a good basketball player needs, anon.
Using a series of red herrings to advance the plot before using a fluke bring the characters to the right place/conclusion
