Who else here can read shit written in other languages even if you don't know how to write/speak them? I'm spanish and I can easily read stuff in french, portuguese and italian. Never studied none of them.

The only romance language I can speak is French but I swear to god I can sort of understand Portuguese writing. I have no idea why but I just feel like I know what it says.

I learned Latin in school and I can read french texts without any problems at all.

Since I speak Swedish I can fluently read Danish on paper, but if I Dane were to talk to me I wouldn't be able to understand a word because of the ass backwards pronounciation. Norwegian is easy af to understand both in writing and spoken, tho.

S tupendous OP it's
A lmost like there are languages that are
G rouped together into labguage families, making it
E asy to read across labnguages due to similarities in vocabulary, syntax, et al

Im bilingual speak both swedish and finnish as my native tongue. I am able to read stuff in norwegian and danish (though not speak language, because its a garbage language for garbage people) .

I kinda understand Estonian, like road signs and instructions. Still, would not be able read a book in Estonian. The language sounds like Jar Jar Binks speaking finnish.

>this amount of bullshit

I'm sure you also learned your second language in 1/2 years.
>>
>>7869039
Nope, learned it quite passively through more than 10 years.
Anglo, it's not that incredible that one romance languages is similar to another.
>>
>>7868285
i know french and can understand the gist of a lot of spanish text as long as i have some context.
>>
>>7869048
I graduated in French and learned it for many years, including living for a short time in France. I've never met a single Spanish, Italian or Portuguese speaker who understand it naturally, nor they get each other as well. It's plain bullshit, it's common sense these almost don't share anything.

I neither understand shit when it comes to spoken word, but I can get the message when reading.
>>
>>7869123
Well, spotting a word that has the (assumed) same meaning is different than to “easily read stuff in french, portuguese and italian” or “read french texts without any problems at all”. Anyway, how do you know you get the message since you don't know what it exactly means? What kind of stuff do you read?
>>
>>7869141
I read some pages of O Livro Do Desassossego (it arrived home yesterday) and I had no difficulties. I also sometimes read French or Italian news or articles. French is a little harder and takes more time, but it's generally intelligible. There are some different words tho, but most of theme you know from general knowledge or similarity.

Tuborg is such a shit beer

They are fairly similar from what i can recall, they have alot of similarly spelled words with similar meanings. Similar to jeans in english and jeans in french, pretty straightforward to understand even if you dont know shit in french.
