How does he know all these things that have never been said

I always think that all the people I know who do slam poetry are awful but then I remember that it's all awful. Ernest Cline is reddit incarnate, this has no value whatsoever

>I gave Art3mis a courtly bow and stretched out my hand.
>Art3mis: So I'm supposed to believe you're one of those mythical guys who only cares about a woman's personality, and not care about the package it comes in?
>I'm a really nice guy, once you get to know me. I swear.
>>
(Saying it in a way that makes you know I dont mean it) Slam poetry? Yeah, That's my Shit!
>>
Why call it poetry? Of course oral poetry exists, but that involves some sense of rhythm. 'Slam poetry' is more like dramatic monologue.
>>
My writing class is doing this next week.

Our teacher is best friends with the gay-straight alliance club and there are a bunch of dyed hair left winging bisexual/gay people in there.

This will be hell for me and we're forced to perform.

Kill me.

Read the scat scene from Gravity's Rainbow and say you're being oppressed when they try to stop you.

I'm thinking of writing a shit piece about how 3rd wave feminism is a crock full of shit.

Do I just skip, anon? How did you go through this trial?
>>
>>7866220
I just might, it seems funny. How obscure is this that she will recognize this?
>>
>>7866226
honestly dude I'd just skip and email the instructor saying that its against your personal beliefs to sit there and listen to that shit
>>
>>7866235
Can't, I wish but can't. They can't say misogyny since I'm of the same gender so likelyhood of getting in trouble is low.

Just all retarded. I regret taking creative writing. Just gonna vent, but teacher tells us to give effort. Do it, write as well as I can and she complains it's too long before even reading it.
>>
>>7866231
Gravity's Rainbow is pretty well know as is Pynchon, but mostly in name only. The majority haven't actually read it.

I doubt anyone would know where it's from if you just read a scene.
>>
>>7866262
I'll check it out man, thanks.

There's this quote that slam poetry is nothing more than minorities expressing their frustrations in a ham-fisted way, but I 'm not sure whether it's a quote by an actual person or invented by /lit/
>>
I don't even know what slam poetry is. I don't think I care to either.
>>
>>7866195
You have a few choices
1) Don't do it
2) Make your poem about how slam poetry is all indignant railing (Your own ironic indignant railing)
3) Try to make something good in a format that is generally shit. It won't be appreciated by anyone, but do some message>medium shit.

Write a sermon on homosexuality and sin. Deliver it in your most thundering and dignified voice. If you get in trouble say it was ironically meant to undermine the position, like Defoe's Shortest Way With the Dissenters
>>
>>7866225
but umm, modernism destroyed meter. milton helped us get rid of rhyme and invented injambment, the romantics did away with stuffy five accent lines, and finally t s eliot and wallace stevens helped us free ourselves from meter for good. walt whitman too. so I guess what i'm saying is, poetry has been one long continuous progression towards free verse. slam poetry is continuing the tradition.

Monikers in suits? HOHOHOHO We're Advanced-Apes you fool!

>nee-chee

HAHAHAHAH the curtain flutters and LOOK -- THERE! THERE! the pleb has revealed himself !! (one wonders if Mr. Ernest Cline will depart from the world unaware that he will die as a hack?)

It seems this one has not flown the mental womb of teenage angst. Bloom was right about slam poetry and the petulance of millennials!

Marxism is a constant stream of negations, from Marx's criticism of capitalism to postmodern deconstruction, the left can only tear down! True genius is creative! YESS it tears down the obsolete but after this they BUILD MAN UP TO GREATER HEIGHTS.

Slam poetry is the result of mass literacy and mass democracy. "Aye, let us bring the plebeian hordes up to our level saith our friend the Enlightened philanthropist" well sir here you see plain the result of your communist machinations! mass consumerism, mass plebeianism, where the merit of slam "poems" are decided by clap-o-meter! O how the coffins of Schopenhauer and Carlyle must be spinning, their skeletons rattling. If only they could see the result of the 20th century reverberating into the 21st.

I'm glad /lit/ is populated with patricians who meet slam poetry with the cavernous laughter it deserves!
>>
>>7868156
Do this but with the brimstone and visceral energy of Carlyle
>>
>>7868244
the "stormy sophist with his mouth of thunder" would indeed be an excellent voice for the purpose

except that very few men have the talent to write like Carlyle

/lit/ is 90% female because reading is a woman and homosexual hobby.

yes but nobody on /lit/ reads and posting on 4chan is a male (not to say manly) hobby

The people that post about books that aren't /lit/ memes are 99% women and 1% /r9k/-tier male. This board probably comes in 3rd place in women outside of the cosplay and japan board.

get a projector and throw up a screenshot of this comment, then read it out twenty times, first in different personas, then gradually switching into your own first person voice until you reach an emotional climax on the nineteenth, where you pack up all your internalized misandry into one self-loathing ball and lob it at the audience. The projector turns off; the spotlight goes out; you are in the dark. Then after a long pause, in the most calm and serious voice you can do, "What a fat and ugly worthless white male. Pathetic."

Why not just call it fallacy poetry

shit i used to do after i thought anarchy was a good idea or communism was brilliant

honestly i read somewhere that you only have the right to an idea/ideology, only when you are are able to defend it adequately.

and cut this rhetoric bull.

I like how he acknowledges in the poem that anything can be a slam poem by reading it with random crescendos and pauses
>you are the Joycean Leopold Bloom
Make it more obvious you haven't even read the whole wikipedia page of Ulysses
>>
>>7869031
yeah, I don't believe this
>>
>>7866252
No, don't stand up in opposition, join your opponents and make them look silly, write a slam poem about how rape is liberating, how only a rapist can teach a woman her place.

Then they can expound on that and say "woooahh so deep guys its like a woman's internalized feelings of oppression can only be unlocked through an act of bold faced misogyny because daily microagressions fail to trigger the righteous anger that finally sets woman free!"
>>
>>7868885
>not to say manly

that's the most problematic parenthetical I've ever laid eyes on
>>
>>7872064
manliness is something everybody ought to take seriously

ofc I mean the old and English sense, not the new macho American corruption of it
>>
>>7866195
Slam poetry is dominated by the gay community, or at least that's what i've seen in the towns I've lived in.

I'm diagnosed autistic, and when I was a child, I would eat nothing but Turkey Dinosaurs, not a mere preference, if they were not served I would refuse to eat. My parents tried to put their foot down, I just starved myself for four days. My mother had to take me to a Doctor.

the power of the poetry is in the presentation. written, its just bullshit. i dont know any slam poetry that is decent on paper. its like cheap theater, and theater is shit itself so i guess slam poetry is near nothing
>>
>>7865885
I have not seen much slam poetry, but the little I have seen makes me think they're aspiring rappers. Even the white guys.
