I'm a culturally protestant fedora, and I've had it with this idiotic catholic chauvinism anti-protestantism on this fucking website. Multiple times a day, either here, on /his/, or /int/. Yes, I mad, yes, I triggered.

Your whole bullshit is a fallacious sentimental appeal to history, where you pretend authority where you have never, do not, and can never have it. All that you are, is an older cult among cults. And you're not even the oldest cult yet living. All that you can do is gibber Muh History, Muh Culture, Muh Pretty Sculptures.

Insofar as /you all believe in a dead kike on a stick/, you are all equally stupid, dumb and worthless. Some of the stupidities native to the Catholic offshoot, or branch, of Christendom include kike wine to kike blood (oh but let's insert weasal words about what's actually going on, depending on what 'heathen' we address ourselves to) and diddling choir boys.

Fuck all cults, and fuck Islam, Judaism, and the Roman Catholic Church in particular. Your mother sucks cocks in hell. Fuck off.

>>
>>7847806
what is this, some sort of new wave /his/ copypasta? it's awful.
>>
Protestantism is much more intellectual than Catholicism, and no replying with a picture of Santo Tomás does not disprove this, and I know a lot more than you about the theology of both sects. The average catholic will get shitfaced and do whatever throughout the week and just believe that as long as they go to confession it's all good. They are very idolatrous and even the most low-life degenerate catholics will cross themselves before they do anything like sports. It amounts to a bunch of empty gestures for most of them. Really, I would like to see a more united Christian church, and I am neither Catholic or Protestant but I will take Protestantism over Catholic pope worship any day.

It is true that one must worship wherever one can, and that worshiping in a humble building is a beautiful thing and unspeakably better than no worshiping and no congregating at all.

It is also true that churches should aspire to be beautiful. It's not necessarily a Christian ideal as it is in Islam (where one of the 99 Names of Allah is "Al-Badi" or "the Beautiful", and where the pursuit of spirituality is intimately interwoven with the pursuit of beauty (see ihsan).

But it's traditionally been something all churches aspired too. Beauty is meaningful in a lot of theological contexts, and most persons would agree that beautiful churches help worshipers gain a sense of wonder and awe as they prepare for services.

Professor Robert Gimello, a Buddhologist, has described the art produced (architecturally and as motifs/reliefs/stained glass etc.) in the Christian Middle Ages and in Buddhist temples in classical China, as "anagogical." The art is not merely beautiful. It is a component in the process of the religion itself.

Your friend is entirely wrong. As far as current doctrine goes, yes the Pope is infallible. Ex Cathedra and all that.

Does that mean we can't question Papal Infallibility? No, not at all. We can question it, critize the doctrine and history it comes from. Lots of current Theologians do just that. Christiantiy is a religion of reason, understanding and debate. Cannon changes, Doctrine changes and it will ever more.

But, papal infalibility does me currently that we must follow the teaching of the Pope and whatever he says Ex Cathedra.

Just like the president doing an executive order. Do you like it? Maybe, maybe no, but you still have to follow it.

>>
>>7848620
It's not paganistic at all. Just because you don't know how saints work and fall amongst the Court of the Lord doesn't mean it's pagan to have a Patron and pray to their Eternal Soul.

If anything your argument would be better off claiming it's Pagain-ish because of it's Platanist belief in the Soul and Eternal Life.

They were also at one time the strongest piece of Europe as was the Eastern Church in Byzantium.

Also take a look at the Council of Trent. I am not sitting here defending Indulgences and the corruptness of that period of the Church. But it is foggy and too long for me to explain well.

Your question is a good one! I really don't know off the top of my head, I am going to go do some reading on that now, I hope you do the same. I don't pretend to be a Theologian, it's just a passing fancy.

At least Catholics can shitpost.

I think it's that the Pope is only infallible when speaking Ex Cathedra about interpretation of scripture, doctrines and teachings, and moral law.

Unlike Protestants seem to believe, the Pope isn't just some magical God-King.

have you ever read kant?
if yes, re-read him.
if not:
he is an anti-scholastic, meaning he does not believe we can PROVE god exists because we live in the phenomenal (read: physical) world whereas God lives in the noumenal (read: transcendental) world.

yet he assumes God exists as one of the three postulates of practical reason (along with freewill and immortality of the soul) because although he cant prove god exists, if god didnt then kants entire philosophy, especially ethics, is completely meaningless.

God is the Summum Bonum.

>But don't worry man, when Christ comes to earth again we will both be saved.
dont catholics believe in "ex exceliusium non sulla est" (excuse spelling)

i.e. no salvation outside the church

sorry, not expert in catholic doctine
>>

The Westboro Baptist Church also believes they're the only sect of Christianity that will be saved. It's just dummies believing their interpretation is the correct interpretation.

Its funny how all the GOAT British writers were Catholics

Donne, Pope, Marlowe.. I don't know if you'd put Shakespeare in there too.

Even more recently you have Greene, Chesterton, Waugh, Belloc who all have Catholicism as a central theme of thier writings

Its hard to think of protestant equivalents, Lewis and Tolkein, perhaps, but nowhere near the same level
>>
>>7847949

Although Catholics dominate lit, the protestants dominate Enlightenment philosophy.

Kant was an austere lutheran, as was Kierkegaard. Hume was raised presbyterian and Rousseau was certianly protestant too.

The exception would be Diderot, but even he was a Jansenist Catholic
>>
>>7851060
Hmm Lewis and Elliott were both Anglican, but strangely fond of Catholic intellectual heritage.
Very strange indeed, for a country which Belloc calls one where being a Victorian meant hatred for Catholicism.
>>7851084
While some of those were pious protestants I don't think you can say others were Christian at all. Rousseau and Hume were as far as I know very anti Christian, as far as doctrine goes. And you can't really expect Catholics to be in the enlightenment at all, very different concepts of life in general.
But protestants certainly did dominate philosophy, after Descartes and Pascal I can't think of another Catholic philosopher that was as influential as Berkley, Kant or Locke.

And across the Irish sea you have Beckett, Yeats and Wilde who all were raised Anglican. I don't know enough about Ireland to know if there may have been material factors why that was but its' still interesting
>>
>>7851723
I honestly can't think of anyone Irish as protestant after Joyce.
>>
>>7851692

One obvious Catholic enlightenment thinker is Isaac Newton btw, but you're right- hard to think of a philosopher apart from Diderot who was already mentioned
>>
>>7851740
Wasn't Newton a wacky protestant?
>>
>>7851752

Yeah you're right. I don't know why i thought otherwise
>>
>>7851771
Also Diderot was an atheist.
I when classifying people don't like to call them Catholic or anything else if they renounced it. Saying an atheist was Catholic is both paradoxical and unfair to the man.
