For majority of us it's entirely unavoidable. Still, I like to read Zerzan and Kaczynski for my fundamentalism fix.

Half way through his manifesto right now. He makes a hell of a lot more sense than any of these politicians babbling at the moment. Hillary is still responsible for killing more people than Ted, but whatevs.

Because it's the only path to true global unity.

People are too self interested to ever do that willingly. We need to be dragged, kicking and screaming, into the next step in our evolution as a species.

primitivism is silly desu.
Although i will admit that multi-million population cities do a great deal to alienate society, however cities under 600,000 or so can be perfectly pleasant and still retain a sense of community and civic duty.

Besides Glasgow has the whole sectarianism issue.

That isn't standard in medium-large cities.

Why would you want global unity or the next step of our evolution as a species? That sounds spooky as all hell.

Kevin Kelly rekt his 'philosophy' in 'What Technology Wants'
He does a whole bit on Ted's flawed argument,
And made the point that Ted shopped at Walmart for plastic mass-produced goods and army surplus for clothes.
What a hypocrite.

Much like anarchists who wear bomber jackets and army surplus combats and boots and pharma-produced drugs they could never afford without the military-industrial complex, and none want to really live barefoot in a toga.
If they did, they would.
>>
>>7831609
Born into it, pressured socially, economically and legally to remain a part of it.

It's a form of suicide to revolt against modern society as a mentally ill twenty something with no personal charisma, work prospects or significant pool of allies, and yet, this is an accurate description of so many who do.

Are we all just so alienated from other people to the point where we can't see something that they can?

Is self-denial the only solution for a person who's inner desires are so destructive?

How do you even begin to channel an endless fountain of anger at an abstract idea so pervasive as to be a force irresistible by any individual?
>>
>>7834352
>Kevin Kelly
>>
>>7834352
When everything is evil then you've not got much else to fight it with.

Even the wildest idealists understand that you can't fight well armed fully clothed people in houses and automobiles while you're naked and clutching a sharp stick in your dugout canoe.
>>
>>7831845
>Because it's the only path to true global unity.

Shouldn't we carefully hash out that kind of thing? Like really focus on how we would achieve this rather than distracting everyone and doing it behind the scenes?
>>
>>7831845
Ah yes, "my way is the only way".

The west and it's hegemony are declining, and the other powers are not so overly concerned with making nice.

When it inevitably all blows up in your face I sincerely hope you, and people who think like you are blamed, because it will be your fault.
>>
>>7834707
> life will improve when the west declines
>>
>>7834728
Life was never going to improve for everyone.

There is not enough oil, water, food, power, space, or clean air for every human being currently living in the world to live to the standard that you and I do currently.

The only truly ethical decision either of us could make would be to throw away our privileges and sit down in the mud with the billions of global poor who comprise the majority of the human race.

And that's not ever going to happen.

The western world has sold a lie, science and morality are impotent whilst money controls the hearts of men.

Consign yourself to a quiet death, it's marginally more dignified than trying desperately to avert the apocalypse by conquering in the name of "peace".

If the men and means that run the world today shall continue to run it in the future, I am quite happy to say that ten thousand or so years of human civilisation is enough.

There is enough resources for the world to live like the west, there just isn't enough IQ to utilize them. And pls go with your crocodile tears over the harshness of reality- our pain is nothing compared to our ancestor's, and the human race could potentially achieve a transcendence that we cannot even comprehend

I'm not. I get to be part of it and it feels good. OP I do see your point of view and it is frustrating that nobody seems to care when you bring it up. If the majority of people cared, society wouldn't have the image that you associate with slavery. We can change it by first changing ourselves. I'm still trying to be a better person by helping others out when convenient.

>diversity = secterianism

You know shit isn't that simple.
Rangers Celtic beef is drenched in hundreds of years of blood history, you can't simplify it down to "different ethnic groups always fight"

That is a ridiculous maxim and a myth that continues to fuck up international politics to this day.
>>
>>7831845
why would you think this
>>
>>7834406
Yes, Kevin Kelly.
Problem?

>>7834427
It's pure hypocrisy.
Anarchists want to use tech to destroy tech?
They're probably gonna need some pretty good tech.
Better get to work!

Technology literally is progress.
The unabomber was literally a parasite feeding off society.
He shopped at a 7-11, walmart, drugstore, army surplus, etc for ready meals, pre-packaged food,
Medicine, reading material, utensils, etc etc

He bought some nice tools and some milled and cured timber to build a hut.
He is literally feeding the machine he supposedly wanted to destroy and stop, and sucking from it's teat.
Rat race? He practically was a rat.
There are untouched tribes in Borneo who could fashion better tech.
Why not a book on bushcraft?
Why not a mud hut?

He sent a letter (not hand delivered, via the post office, because it's so handy! Thanks USPS!)

Who the fuck would he be without the industrial technological society?
Presumably living in a cave, with little knowledge of anything, wondering how to clean dirt off his skin better or make a better flint spear.
Have fun with that.

His education and background was privileged, government provided, as was the tech that improved his chances of being born (a sterile hospital) clothes made for him and mass produced goods imported from the third world, by entrepreneurs for profit, medical supplies from big pharma, and lived in a government sanctioned and protected national park.

Without the society he hates so much, he would be walking barefoot with sores, and stewing in his own filth.

Did he write his blackmail letter with a pen or did he scratch it into a tablet?
OK, so you destroy the system.
How much do you keep?

Because he was clearly cosy in there.
What alternative was he proposing?
He would hoard and loot what he could,
And for the next generation, or those who could not hoard or loot?

Have you seen 'The Book of Eli'?
Because that's what we're talking about here.
Stuff won't just disappear.

The strong or devious will take the lions share and if you want so much as an aspirin or a can of beans, you had better get on your knees and start sucking, or be Gary Oldman's bitch and do his bidding.

>the first world is literally perfect guys
>>
>>7834789
>in the world
Implying this is the only option
I'll say four words, see if you can join the dots - Musk, Tesla, Solar, Space

>oil
Currently not the only option for fuel.
Hydrogen and solar, kinetic clean energy, etc no longer science fiction.

>water
Solar-powered reverse osmosis water fountains are already reality and take water from the air to convert to dispense water.

>food
Even westerners are already looking at many alternative liquid foods, hydroponically grown.
Insects are becoming a delicacy.
The food menu gets more diverse all the time.
There are still a lot of animals we are not eating.
There’s about 20 wood pigeons in my back garden right now. I wouldn't starve.

>power
You mean fuel?
See 'oil' above

>space
Currently 80% + of humans are living in metropolitan areas, it seems humans are making their choice.

>clean air
Solutions are being perfected all the time.
As oil and petrol burn out, and coal, this will lessen.
China and India, etc are still playing catch up.
And when they do, we can sell them the clean tech.
Welcome aboard.

What is an entrepreneur?
What is a capitalist?

Someone who works on solutions for profit,
While most others only see problems, create them,
Or pray to their false gods.

>>7835010
Pretty much this.

Go explain to a cancer victim that while you are happy so much progress has been made, and that he would have died years ago if not for medical science, that you are going to remove his therapy, and cancel his heathen abortion using plasma lasers because tech is evil
>>
>>7835271
Feel free to move to the third world at any time.
Remember to get your vaccine shots and malarial antidote first.
Or pick up some mosquito repellent from your local branch of Evil, inc. Or order on Amazon.
Feel free to thank big pharma for making it affordable when you do.
And your medical insurance corporation or government Medicare for providing it.
And take your cellphone, so you can post on /lit/ when you do.
I think you'll be surprised at the cellphone coverage, since the third world didn't have to replace old copper wires, they just installed optic fibre and ethernet for a fraction the cost, with no R&D costs.
satellites provided by evil corporations and corruption governments should see you right.
I assume you are using some form of cheap and available public transport?
Travel insurance anon?
Always good to have a backup.

Protip - any third worlder would sell his kid for your lifestyle. But then you don't have to provide for 6 dependents - his sick mother, poorly father, his foir siblings encouraged by religion, which banned his contraception and abortion option provided by charitable initiatives from philanthropic entrepreneurs.

The 1% who don't give a fuck about anything, allegedly - currently providing more clean water than ever existed in man's history, and spending billions upfront to cure malaria

The world's religions - currently trying to build more churches mosques and synagogues which grab prime real estate and solve nothing.

Seems legit.

>live in a cabin just outside of town and still depend on society
>feel superior to everyone living in a cabin just inside of town and also depending on society.

Literally just a more violent and autistic Thoreau.
>>
>>7835267
I went off on a tangent there.
He sent a letter to the newspapers (tech - printing press) to be published via their complex and expensive media network (evil tech) to get the word out, which they did, (using their evil media distribution networks)
He used a stamp (tech) and the post office (virtually free service subsidized by the evil machine) to send his letter (written with tech) threatening to send more bombs (tech he learned from reading library books provided by evil governments, and ingredients he bought on sale at his local branch of Evil, inc.) to random scientists who are not actually decision makers, using words and (flawed) reasoning he mastered in a free education facility (subsidized by the government)
>>
>>7835087
Follow your dream, anon.
Or just crack open another pack of pop tarts and jerk off to some free online porn and shitpost for another few years...
You'll do it tomorrow.

If I hear anybody complaining about tech,
It had better be while showing me around their handmade offline, offgrid shack,
Or while sitting in a doorway or under a tree.
Or sitting in a barrel or something.
Everyone else can fuck off...

Once you're self-sufficient, you get bragging rights.

>>7835321
Even Thoreau would enjoy the hospitality of a network of friends for proper meals and a place to crash while he was doing that (short-lived) 'experiment' - he didn't live out his days there.
I think it's much easier to start off with nothing and prefer it, than experience the alternative and renounce it.
Since progress is built into our genes.
Evolution is the genetic expression of progress.
>>
>>7831609
Well, within our Insane society there is some room to fight for a meaningful existence. You could become a teacher and do battle with the inane bureacracy and outmoded pedagogical principles of the old guard, until you level up and get a job at a progressive school.

You still have to put up with countless bullshits, but you also get modern medicine and as much healthy food as you want. You only watch vidya through your computer so you block all ads, and only take in the media you want.

You meditate, exercises, help your friends and family with their issues, and read many books. Sometimes you suffer and other times you are exuberant. Knowledge and wisdom make fine goals.

Thriugh it all you watch as society nears the precipice of many worlds. A future of automated socialism or automated repression? Ecological collapse or new self sustaining green cities?

I don't know, but without technology I'll never become an immortal cyborg space captain.

Yes, modernity is mostly meaningless, but wise people can craft something decent within it. It just will be hard as fuck.
>>
>>7835267
We're raised in this society and have become dependent on it. Every time you use technology is a Faustian bargain but sometimes it's just not possible to refuse.
