i've been reading Flannery O'Connor's complete short stories lately, some of them are very good. try The Heart of the Park, The Geranium (her first published story, from her early 20s i think) and A Good Man is Hard to Find.

Calvino, The Crow Comes Last.
In the Penal Colony really surprised me. I'm not that into a lot of Kafka short stuff, but it's genuinely disturbing and has that same aspect with the novels where it's a glimpse of some larger monstrosity. That and Great Wall of China are my faves.

Not very dark but The Nose by Nikolai Gogol is a good short story.
Carver's 'Dummy', 'Tell the Women We're Going'. Both gave me nausea and 1 hour wall-staring session
Upon The Dull Earth is my favourite, the ending is horrifying
the overcoat by Gogol
